Daily News #120

City Cast Philly is the daily news podcast about the city you love (and maybe sometimes hate?) and the Philadelphians who are working hard every day to make this place better. Each weekday morning, host Trenae Nuri will chat with people all across Philly’s diverse neighborhoods about issues that matter to you. Whether that’s what do I even do on the weekends in this city with endless options, or how do I get the bus to actually stop, or how is this city going to keep our kids safe and educated? City Cast Philly is here for it all. It’s that energetic, informative conversation you might overhear at your neighborhood coffee shop. But with City Cast Philly, you’re always welcome to join in.

    Get to know Philly!
If you haven’t listened to City Cast Philly I highly recommend especially as newer to Philly. Every week there are new podcasts that help you know what’s happening in the city from food and events to politics. The episode on the impacts of gun violence was particularly moving. Trenae (and Matt) do an excellent job engaging their guests and help their listeners know what’s happening in Philly!

Such a lovely conversation about Philly
I’ve truly enjoy City Cast Philly. It covers all topics you should care about in Philly. It is the perfect balance. Love the host and producers as well. They have such a nice chemistry. Their guests are great and it’s so nice to meet some of important people who make Philly Philly!
  • AlanaBog
They ask great questions. I’m a new fan.
So happy to have this podcast. Informative, thoughtful conversations here.
  • Gaaj23
    Informative, focused, and fun.
You know what you’re getting from each episode based on the title. I like it because it allows me to filter through episodes so I can focus on issues important to me. I think Philly Cast has done a spectacular job of selecting a host. Trenae Nuri, your flexibility and relatability as a host is wonderful. I really appreciate the questions you ask as a way to get to the heart of: “what is this and why do I care” - from everything to the overspending by the Housing Authority to the best pizza’s in Philly.

*update: Even more… Solid show covering current, relative local issues
I appreciate this podcast focused on Philly through brief but detailed main story with a few minor notes at the end. I like the host’s unique take and easy going interview style. I’ve been listening from the beginning and the quality, balance, and breadth of guests is really impressive. The stories are directly relevant to my life in this city - great reporting! Thank you.

    Interesting local stuff but….
The host doesn’t seem to know as much about Philly as you’d expect. Thinks there isn’t any music in Rittenhouse Square (there is, every day), didn’t know Philly is considered the most Parisian city in America, didn’t know restaurants had to meet extremely strict regulations to keep their streeteries open…does she even read the Inquirer? Definitely listen for the guests, but the host, who seems like a nice person, isn’t very well informed.

don’t know how it’s taken me this long to discover this, but it’s exactly what I’ve been seeking for years: short, daily, Philly-focused news podcast. High production value, great diversity of guests, casual but knowledgeable host. Highly recommend. 10/10

    Great Philly podcast
Daily weekday episodes diving into wide variety of current topics with a great host. I moved to Philly a year ago, and this is now my daily go-to that makes me feel increasingly rooted to the city.

A great addition to Philly’s news ecosystem
CityCast Philly is a great show, and Trenae is a very talented and thoughtful host to guide listeners through what’s going on in the city. I’m really happy to see Philly-specific, general city news podcast like this! I had been hoping something like this would find its way onto the scene, especially in the gap left from Radio Times. Looking forward to many more fun and informative shows!

I LOVE seeing Philly through (host) Trenae’s eyes! She’s such a great guide through what’s going on in Philly, from the bigger political conversations to sports, culture, and even lingo. I always enjoy listening.

Start your mornings with this show!!
This is the podcast you’ll want to wake up to — smart, funny, informed, and totally tapped into the energy of Philly. It’s like your cool neighbor who invites you over for coffee and suddenly there are all these really smart people from all over the city there, too. And then you’re listening in to a really interesting conversation about cannabis, or “Ya Fav Trashman,” or “jawn.” I just wanna hang out with City Cast Philly all day!
  • Houston2995
    Great focus on Philly!
So satisfying to hear smart talk about local stuff — like the annoying overuse of the word “jawn.”

Gives a Much Needed Representation of Philly!
I have been loving this podcast, I feel like it’s been needed for this city for a long time! A perfect team that’s been informing me of the ins and outs of Philly at a level that didn’t exist before.
