Overall I love The Daily -
Overall I truly enjoy your podcast. That being said - the Eddie Murphy interview was one of the least interesting interviews I have ever heard. I’m not trying to be negative and I do appreciate Eddie Murphy but the chemistry between your interviewer and talent never clicked and was so painstaking to listen to.

    Music Issues on Podcast
Love the content but they have sound quality issues with the background music, it’s been going on for a few months and hasn’t been fixed.

    Pod is bad now
Bad takes. Poor coverage of important topics. False equivalencies all over the place. Not worth listening or subscribing to anymore. It’s a shame that the NYT is spiraling downward and no longer a reliable journalistic entity for the American public.

    Peter Baker interview
The interviewer implied that Robert Hur was investigating Hunter Biden when he issued his report commenting on Joe Biden’s diminished mental capacity. Wasn’t Hur investigating the classified documents that Joe Biden had shared with his ghostwriter?

    Not news
This pod really took a dump. I thought it was a news podcast but it’s a marketing campaign by the people who own the nyt to keep brainwashing people into believing the news of old. Don’t waste your time

    Updates about the SCOTUS
Why are you not going over all of these corrupt rulings by our SCOTUS overlords! Democracy is in shambles and y’all have devolved into tabloid fodder about our only hope against dictator Trump needing to step down because he’s too old.

    Disappointed
I’ve been a long time listener but will definitely reconsider. I’m so disappointed. Why are you not talking about Trump’ terrible debate performance and and all his lies. 2 negative episodes this week about Biden. This is crazy.

    Disappointed
I just listened to the Biden dropping out episode and why does he have to drop out? Why isn’t there an episode addressing why no one is calling for Trump to step down? He is a convicted felon and has not dedicated his life to public service. I want to hear an episode detailed why our country would be like if Trump were to win.

    Removal of Biden 01.July'24 show
Your participants made the same error that Obama and others make. Namely, suggesting that Biden's problem in the first debate was just an off night. Obama compared it to his own first debate in 2012. Really? Does anyone equate these 2 performances? Obama was glib, disengaged and arrogantly. Biden, in contrast gave an unintended plenary session demonstrating what cognitive impairment looks like.

    Biden
The NYT Editorial Board created the story of Biden dropping out. I’m disgusted with the paper’s descent into gonzo journalism. A bad debate is a story, but the Editorial Board saying that Biden should drop out followed by the so-called news division “reporting” about Biden dropping out smacks of a typical FOX NEWS strategy. I’m so disappointed.

    Edge of the Cliff
There is a non linear process whereby an older person is okay until they are not. How many of us have Biden's taxpayer-provided attendants propping up our elders? How much goes into doing EVERYTHING for him so he may act vigorous? Give me a break!

Hit and miss, but solid overall
It’s either really good or very not interesting. Decent podcast to keep up with.

    A Brutal Fact
Americans have only two choices: re-elect Biden, a truthful man who loves American democracy, who has accomplished many things while in office yet is exhibiting the first stages of age-related dementia… Or, re-elect Trump who had involvement in over 3,000 legal suits before he was elected president and who continued to wreak havoc and chaos while serving as president piling on more legal issues. Trump, who cannot stop lying even if the truth were sweet and who, like a malevolent narcissist, will never admit he’s wrong or apologize on the many things he falsely claims, accuses, bloviates about in which he makes clear, he’s all about himself. Currently, PACs and dark money contributors are funding politicians and their pundits who they can buy to do their bidding. Trump will not stop the inflation caused by greedy corporations who pay little to no taxes. Biden can and will accomplish for these wealthiest corporations to start paying their fair share of taxes. If re-elected, Trump will continue to enrich the rich as he did before while in office. Trump was the swampiest political leader when he held presidency for bringing in all of his grifting friends and relatives to run our country as many committed fraud, stole tax payer’s money…then, Trump pardoned them all. Do we really need all this to happen all over again? As a Never Trumper, I like to quote Bill Maher: “I’ll vote for Biden even if he’s dead.”

    Trash
Seriously, who needed Matt Gaetz yesterday when you the New York Times? Just like Ezra DeKlein, these clowns spend their time critiquing Biden’s performance with oozing earnesty like the debate was a recently-discovered Pixies album & the Times apparatus are the Pitchfork intelligentsia ready to pan it. They could have dealt with the sociopathic felon, fraudster, & rapist who lied to the American public. Nope. Your priorities are misaligned to say the least. When historians write about the evolution of media capture in the service of fascists, they will write about Michael, Ezra, & the New York Times.

    Disappointed
I listen to this show daily and today I was deeply disappointed. I agree Biden’s performance was terrible and we all have bad days. However, you did not address that every word out of Trump’s mouth was a lie, projection or gaslighting and grandiose. Would you do a show on naming every lie he boldly told? You are part of the bigger problem by not naming the lies as if it is acceptable to behave which such dishonesty. It is not Presidential to manipulate the American people with lies and false accusations. Please do better.
  • Sam the Squid
    Debate
There was no mention of Israel/Palestine on the debate recap episode. Hate to be a downer, but the NYT is hugely complicit in erasing the genocide of Palestinians, even in the smallest of ways.
  • LeneMaxwell
    The Debate …
The NYT apparently thinks a candidate is a ‘winner’ when telling a bunch of lies. You all are amazing at supporting Trump. Smh.
  • David in Seattle
Great if you like a progressive slant without rigor.
It’s not an honest show. Listen to it but very skeptically, (as of course one should listen to all media) but especially look for the the missing facts which would undermine the presentation.

Undermines NYT Reporting bc so Biased and Emotional
Michael Barbaro provides an emotional response to NYT reporters at each point and thereby robs listeners of our own. He undermines the purported fact-finding of the actual reporters interviewed and encourages them to disclose highly biased POV which may satisfy podcast listeners but makes same reporters less believable when reading their written reports. Sabrina is worse. I felt this way about how mean spirited the reporter was about George Ffloy’s siblings. I am adding to this after listening to a presentation on AIPAC. Half of the Jews left in the world post WW2 (while westerners allowed half of all Jews in the world were murdered) are in Israel. Allowing Israel to be lambs to slaughter in face of initiated aggression by Iran/Hamas/Yemen by asking for cease fire is asking for Jews to not care about our existence. Your story emphasizing AIPAC money implies it’s immoral. “Wow… so much money in race.” Jews can’t stand up for ourselves? Both of your tones are so partisan, you are no longer the paper of record, and instead something I sample to look at RIch powerful liberals who are insensitive to Jews.
  • LindseyMicheleLMT
Misinformation catering to the ruling elite
“War against Hamas”… this publication has a really remedial and emotionally detached understanding of genocide. It’s sickening to see it still pervading coverage on the war crimes against Palestinian civilians but it must pay these propagandists well.

Some of the news, some of the time
I liked this podcast for diving deep on articles that I may have never read otherwise, but I am here for relevant current events: wars, scientific breakthroughs, some politics and society. And during the week it is generally fine. Lately, the weekend podcasts have all been from other NYT content introduced as a welcome respite from the news. Most recently it is a podcast with someone talking about animals. Please stop acting like you’re giving me a break from the news— I am a rational being who knows that they signed up for a news podcast to receive the news. I don’t want to hear about puffins.

    Interview
I love the Daily, listen to it "daily", first thing in the morning. I was looking forward to The Interview, but am sorry to say, I am disappointed. With maybe one or two exceptions, I found them either mundane, not interesting, or devoid of a reason why I should keep listening (interview with Gretchen Whitmer was great and I wished it were longer), all the others I did not even finish. Most celebrities are somehow not that insightful. Dr. Vivek Murthy was not on The Interview, yet what a great conversation. No need to create new things when what you are doing is really good and varied. 🙏

Provoking me to learn more… most of the time.
As a listener of the Daily podcast since it’s inception, I have always appreciated hearing the additional insights of the guests and the journalist to write the stories that are ultimately published in the NYT. Sometimes I listen because I had previously read a story and sometimes I read a story because I had previously heard an episode. Either way I stay informed and for that I am grateful. I did not agree with the excessive coverage of Trump when he was in the spotlight every day all the time and I appreciate the daily best when the topics are more diverse and reflecting the full state of a News day and week.

Vocal Fry is making this podcast unlistenable
Amy X Wang’s recent episode was virtually unlistenable due to her vocal fry. And other previous hosts are guilty as well. Sabrina is overly shocked all the time. I’ve listened for years but you are losing me as an audience with the poor sound quality.

    It’s gotten (even) better
TLDR: 5 stars before and 5+ stars now I’ve been a daily listener for 5+ years. I am a politically moderate listener and there were periods of time where I felt the podcast was slightly biased in favor of the left. In the last couple years, I think the Daily has done a better job of highlighting a variety of topics, and (in my humble opinion) has tweaked the framework in analyzing political topics to be slightly more balanced.

    The Daily
I’ve been listening to The Daily for years and think there is no better interviewer than Michael Barbaro. Throughout most all podcasts, he periodically summarizes and extracts key points from content that has been presented while prompting greater depth from the presenter. This helps keep the listener engaged, as the content is sometimes quite complicated. The problem I have noticed is that, as well-intentioned and pleasant all the substitute hosts are, none of them come close to his level. Sabrina and some of the others follow his approach, but too often miss opportunities to take the conversation to the next level. With the lighter weight stories, it doesn’t matter as much. But, for example, today’s episode on the Mysterious Gun Study sorely missed him. (It prompted this review.) Granted, Michael is brighter than average. Are there no other wannabes out there at that level? Thank you.

    Excellent reporting and thank you
I want to thank The Daily for the tenacious and thoughtful reporting on the high capacity gun debate in the United States and just as importantly the segment on the marvelous Mr. Mays.

    Rare story; major impact
The Daily often includes little known stories, like the lawsuit that targets marketing as a cause of mass shoutings, that may well have society impacting consequences. And about how pro gun groups managed to gin up a survey totally misleading courts that should have asked better questions. It is what news does when it is done ethically and skillfully. The Daily is my morning newspaper.

    FIRE- extremely disappointing
I ama regular listener, and have often been inspired and intrigued by the content. In the last 12 months, that is much less true. Today’s episode is especially disappointing. This episode endorses and does not question the extraordinarily impoverished understanding of work, and it’s role in human society. Nowhere in this episode do you raise the idea that MEANINGFUL work is not only a social good, but also a hallmark of human thriving. Your endorsement of the capitalist falsehood that money equals happiness is not only shallow but incredibly irresponsible to ignore the climate catastrophe that has resulted from the tragic equation of happiness with two Lamborghini’s and a day of playing pickleball. This is not only sad, but also damaging. Living simply is not only a imperative for human survival, it’s also spiritually fulfilling. Your protagonist only discovers “giving back” (what a patronizing statement of unearned privilege) when he runs head first into the emptiness of wealth. And he concludes by stating that he has no identity. To say that you don’t belong to work, you belong to yourself only makes sense if work must be equated with a meaningless corporate structure that designs apps to help us read by tilting our phones. Why did you not interview a teacher, a social worker, or a local public servant whose work provides the wealth that money never can- meaning. This episode was such a disappointing missed opportunity.

    What happened to regular episodes
I love the Daily but they keep filling my feed with random episodes of shows I don’t like. I listen to the Daily for news. not bad interviews with Anne Hathaway and Puffin content. One show being put into the feed every now and then is fine, but its practically been every other day lately. booooo!!!!! 🍅 🍅
  • Tim 1159
    So lame
This episode was so bad I had to comment. Titled “How to retire as early as humanly possible”, the host and reporter spent 90% of the episode talking about a guy who became a millionaire creating Apps. This podcast is generally for people who don’t know anything about the topic in question (…to be sure, for some topics, that’s me!). But this episode was particularly pointless.
  • GkMerr
Things that make you go hmm
I know that this isn’t going to be a source for unbiased news but so far I’ve enjoyed the podcast. I just don’t know if I can continue listening to Host Michael “hmm-ing” multiple times throughout the podcast. So annoying.
