JustdontaskpleaseAmazing podcast💖As a young person trying to learn about all the different aspects of music I really truly enjoy this podcast. Many artists who were mentioned on the show even if only for a short clip of a song are now seen abundantly throughout my playlist! (For example: Rufus, were Chaka khan got her start) It’s really cool to be able to learn about the artists and their careers and then hear the song piece by piece with all the separated instruments and vocals. Also Diallo and LUXXURY have amazing personalities and are very charming. I love hearing their little stories here and there about Diallo’s DJ-ing or LUXXURY’s songwriting. Overall one of my all time favorite podcasts. ❤️

1888 09More music less talkingThis is such a great awesome concept. 8/10 they hit it out of the park. But 2/10 they spend so much time talking about other topics including themselves. Just want to hear the stems so bad. Sometimes there's only 10-15 minutes of stems. Please more stems! Pretty please.

who_can_it_be_nowLearn, Laugh, Love!As a former new wave, post-punk and dance club DJ, this show gets me every time. This intersection of culture, history and music is where I wanna hang out. Diallo’s ridiculous rap recall, Luxxury’s technical musical knowledge and the obvious love of music, carried by their sense of humor makes this my favorite pod.

j c hockBest podcast ever!Ok, so I have been going through it the past few years to say the least. And I got so depressed that the world lost ALL its color (but most importantly, Music did). It started to just sound like straight up white noise. But the “One Song” podcast came to me at JUST the right time. Listening to the show has reignited the childlike wonder I used to have for sound, and I am so grateful to you guys for that. I am just starting to pick up the pieces in my life right now, and “One Song” has allowed me to FEEL music again (not just hear it), and made me curious and thankful for all these dope (and often under-appreciated) people who added beauty to our world through sound. So from the bottom of my heart, I wanna say thank you Luxxury & Diallo for doing what you do. You guys are awesome. I know good reviews help keep the show going, so I couldn’t not write something, considering how much value the show has added to my life over this year. I know it’s sappy, but what I said is 100% real. Thank you guys 🤙

PammyweezyI didn’t know how much I needed this!Someone sent me the ATCQ “Scenario” episode and I was hooked. Immediately searched for a De La episode and I found one! That’s when I knew I was onto something special…I don’t trust people who love Tribe but don’t know De La (my faves of Native Tongues). Then I went digging and found Pharcyde and Depeche and New Order and Nirvana and MISSY and and and…do they know me?? I love the details of the layers, the samples, the isolated investigation of the instruments and vocals, and then the musical historical/situational context. I’m not a musician but I understand lots of it and the stuff I don’t, you explain! Thank you! It makes me so happy! Not that you asked, but here are some ideas for future episodes: Fugees (Vocab), Pixies (anything!!!), Beastie Boys (something from Paul’s Boutique maybe?), Modest Mouse!, James Blake…

EricitsmeOne Song EpicureanBrilliant. These 2 gentleman love music just as deeply as you do, and based upon their content, they spend as much time needing out as we wish we could! They know music, they know the music.., they know the culture and they have the most humble open minds and a very unique ability to communicate clearly from the most basic listener to the most educated! They both have personalities that jump through your earphones and their intelligence and charm will draw you in as it has me! I am obviously smitten.., but the insight they offer into your favorite music and timeless cultural zeitgeists has not only broadened (sp) my understanding of music, but reacquainted me with favorites from my youth

JustJoeKingJrLearn a lot!The background and the breakdowns of the music is great. I learn so much with every episode and definitely gain a greater appreciation for the songs and artists.

Watson BeasleyAppreciate your show. However…..Really enjoy your show. Both of you are huge music fans, which I like. And I enjoy the excitement, knowledge, and humor you bring to every show. However…. I feel, like many music fans that are a part of hip hop’s first and second generation, you seem to believe that the entirety of popular music is all leading up to it’s artistic peak, which is rap music. Rap is like every genre before it, it’ll reach a zenith, which I personally think it’s already done, then it’ll slowly die off and eventually get replaced by some other genre. It’s not the end all, be all of popular music. But I continue to listen and learn from your show and look forward to more shows in the future. One more note, in the Supremes episode Luxury said Berry Gordy married Diana Ross. In fact, they had a child together but they never married and never even presented in public as a couple.

Fed Up 90036So goodThese guys are so knowledgeable and nerdy yet still fun to listen to. There are so many mediocre music podcasts out there - do yourself a favor and listen to this one instead.

Friend 27.7Thank youThat episode on Jane’s Addiction was the best. That band shaped me, to this day those songs transport me to another place.

SolTea1Amazing Show! This show is a very fun and educational listen! Diallo and Luxxury are both incredibly knowledgeable. They have awesome chemistry and make it feel like you’re there hanging with them as they do deep dives on the songs. This show has definitely changed the way I listen to music, and has made me appreciate songs and styles that I have not considered as much in the past. Great work gentlemen, keep them coming! I wish there were a higher rating than 5 stars!
-
boomer pyookGreat music podcastEnjoying this podcast. Cool guys who know their stuff. Five stars!
-
Petey Pete_Love the show!Essential listening for music fans and music makers. Always entertaining
-
teeb_airSmart yet ComfyThe hosts are funny, cool, and create an “all are welcome” attitude for music and listeners. Informal yet reverent, rigorous without feeling overly structured. I love this show!
-
BizmBizmRunnin it back!I thoroughly enjoyed the Runnin ep. Thank you for the deep dive into the samples and the unpredictable world of music publishing. Keep up the great work!
-
kathy kmackThe BEST songsSo many of my favorite songs and artists keep coming on this podcast. It’s so interesting and educational to hear the songs broken down into stems, and to learn about all the talented people involved in making the magic brew of these songs. I only wish that at the end, we would hear the final product. So much fantastic music!
-
heheheheheheheheheI love it!!This is my absolute favorite podcast these days! I discovered it through the Sam Sanders podcast I think and I’ve been listening since then. Listening to you guys talk about some of my favorite songs and some songs that I wasn’t familiar with has been the best thing for my mental health. You’re really helping me get through this awful time. I think I’m a little bit older than you guys, but we seem to have a lot of the same taste in music and I’ve been putting together a playlist for a big upcoming birthday and it’s really inspired by one song. So thank you so much!
-
T4TunesDiallo, I know your song! The song you are trying to figure out is David Sanborn’s “Chicago Song.” From the 1987 album “A Change Of Heart.”
-
D’ApostropheMystery song! The mystery song Diallo hummed is “Chicago Song” by David Sanborn!
-
podcast_fan_foreverThe “Jane Says” introI’ve been a fan for a while, but what pushed me to actually rate and review was the Jane Says interpolation (god I hope I used that term right) on the Jane’s Addition episode. Thanks for the stems and gems!
-
ParakleetsAwesome showThe Jane’s Addiction podcast was surprisingly emotional! I lost my mother 4 years ago and could definitely relate to Diallo’s emotions during this pod. Excellent show.
-
Sweet John MuehlbauerMy favorite podcast right now!Love these podcasts! In the concert podcast for 2025 I think one musical influence to electronic that I have not heard about yet is The KLF! Would love to hear an episode on The White Room album/Last Train to Transcentral. I think the KLF really influenced music especially in the 2000s. Can’t wait for the next podcast!
-
ChachNow THIS is a podcastI often don’t listen to podcasts because they can be too heady, the hosts can be annoying, and the content is often meh. One Song is none of those! Each episode is a gem. I’m here for how nerdy and excited Diallo and Luxxury get about audio production, music, beats, etc. It’s an excellent production that I hope sticks around for a while.
-
Dave6480Great Show!I love this show and I love these 2 dudes! Keep up the good work!!!!! Do some Springsteen!!!!!!
-
SweetB8Best Music Podcast!I don’t really write reviews but I wanted to show my support. As a huge lover of all music decades and genres, this podcast is amazing! I love being able to connect some of my favorite songs and artists together and I always learn something new. I find the banter between the two of them endearing and you can tell there is a lot of respect and a genuine friendship between the hosts. The special guests have also been a nice bonus to an already great show. Keep up the great work guys!

DCBJCNJWhere has this podcast been all my life?!?!?!As a lifelong recovering college DJ, I have been a music nerd to a level that I can only assume has been profoundly annoying to everyone around me. I recently embarrassed my husband on a walking tour of Manchester UK by knowing all the answers to the music trivia questions the guide asked the group. I then dragged him to the small seaside town of Portishead because Portishead, where I met a barmaid who grew up with Geoff Barrow, and peppered her with questions. I recount these stories within the context that I am decades beyond adolescence, when this type of behavior is generally exhibited. Suffice it to say, I am euphorically bingeing the 70+ episodes already produced, having just learned of this podcast from that linchpin of Western Civilization, Sam Sanders, who had the hosts on his new show. It is a joy and sometimes moving to be reminded how very much music means to me, and reminisce about my lifelong passion. Thanks, guys!
-
VingogliaSuch a greatThis is one of the best and most insightful music podcasts out there! Really gives you a new perspective on some hit songs that you probably already love.
-
Donnyk1138Love this PodcastI’m a working musician in Detroit for 30+ years and love the break downs of all these songs from so many eras and genres..I wish we were friends lol. Cheers, Fellas! Keep up the great work ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
-
ChrisJScottI really tried but I just can’t…The constant onslaught of overhyped enthusiasm combined with “shouting out” of _every_ single_person_ who is ever mentioned on the show (“Shout out to the homeless guy we just watched walk by as we’re recording this!”) is just tedious. Makes the whole thing kind of insufferable.
-
Samtheninja14Fun way to learn about songsSuch a cool way to listen to the how the songs were made! I could listen to the I’m Every Woman episode on repeat.
-
JPrinzoPerfect Music Nerd PodcastMy favorite part of each episode is hearing the stems. Would love to hear longer snippets of the vocal stems but that’s a very minor complaint
-
:>}MKGet in it!Songs you love, broken down in detail!
-
Malcolm PaineAlways fun and fascinatingEvery episode is full of great nuggets of info about the artists, songwriting and recording, pop culture and loads more. Love it
-
mcfunleyThis podcast never missesIn the Mr. Brightside episode, Luxxury’s complete inability to contain his jealousy of a song about jealousy reaches its zenith as the pair analyzes the lyrics. The narrator is unreliable in claiming to be “just fine” they observe. Luxxury is just as unreliable when he insists that he’s overcome his hangups to become a genuine fan of the band. Reader, he has not. Come for Diallo singing “it’s killing me!” over the Olympics theme, stay for the Russian doll of psychodrama from these two guys that never put a crazy white neighbor in their sitcoms and have lived to regret it. Guaranteed to leave you with sick lullabies. Nine thumbs up.
-
Winston St. JuniorMusic nerds unite. So glad I found this show. A combination of music history, music theory, artist connections and equipment revelations all wrapped up in a humorous chimichanga. Always learn something new when listening.
-
TheSongRemainsFans + Deep Learning.I can’t recommend “One Song” more highly. Diallo and LUXXURY allow me to be casual listener and bona fide music nerd all at once, and let me flow between the two. They make it look easy. It isn’t. But it all goes down so smoothly. Like the stems they unpack every episode, they make these songs make more sense, even those we’ve all heard for decades and thought we understood. They add so much to the lore—musically, culturally, technically, lyrically. It’s clear that they’re pals as well as working partners, and that shared affection for the relationship and the discussions surrounding music shine through.
-
Pretty_brownMust listen to podcastI am upset that I just learned of this podcast, but I am happy that I have all these other episodes to listen to. 💗💗
-
ArakjLove the PodcastI thoroughly enjoy hearing the breakdown of songs you choose and learning about the musical influences. Your love of music is evident and the joy that comes from analyzing these songs together is contagious. I am obsessed with this podcast.
-
High Snobcandy-cameocan you add this to your list?
-
ADJNAMEDSLASH/I Love the Pod/ShowYou guys mentioned Eddie Van Halen twice on this ep. He wasn’t credited for playing on Beat It. He also said he did it for Free .99. Another great pod Ep. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
-
gosiegThe music podcast I've always dreamed ofI've always wanted a show that was obsessed with samples and interpolations like I am. These guys have excellent taste, and I love their enthusiasm and attention to detail
-
1776PhillyLove the show, hate the guests!I love this show, the way the guys break down the songs but please stop including guests. It ruins the episode!
-
MuzikLuvrHooked from the startAs a music nerd I try to give many music related podcasts a shot. What I love about ONE SONG is just that it’s one song Like a good slice of pizza easy to consume. The hosts have a good knowledge of music and listening is like sitting with my friends discussing the subject.
-
WizdogMusic magicLove hearing these songs broken down. Hosts are knowledgeable and fun. Feel much connection right away
-
1971kmrkI want to like this podcast!I’ve only listened to one episode, so maybe it was a fluke, but I was really looking forward to hearing an analysis of “Let’s Groove” along the lines of the how they do it on the Strong Songs podcast. Instead, for the first half of the show we heard the life story of their guest— someone named Estelle— who had nothing to do with Earth, Wind, and Fire. The songs chosen are fantastic, and I like the hosts, but cut out the irrelevant guest fluff and get to the song already!
-
uubvjkGreat show in theoryBut why they always picking garbage songs???
-
amitielGood, but not when they have a guestI love this podcast. Would give it 5 stars except that when they have a guest, it is so frustrating to listen. They spend more time talking to the guest than they do about the song. Often I get so frustrated with it when they do that, that I just give up & turn off the episode. Guys, please, either ditch having guests or try to stay more focused if you have one.
