    Way better speed, Mark! Thanks!
Why are all the new podcasts after 1876 Redux recorded with such a fast talking speed? Sheesh. It makes it too hard to process everything. This podcast used to be great and really interesting (except the woke preachy ahistorical episodes). Now it sounds like it was artificially sped up which makes it insufferable to listen to. Also, why spend time remaking episodes worse than the original versions? Makes no sense. Just make new episodes. Update: Way better speed and pacing! Thank you, Mark! Holy ship was enjoyable to listen to again!

    Constantly entertaining
Since starting this podcast I’ve listened to nothing else. So good, I’m literally addicted. I’m looking for a way to inject it into my vein.

Nice Balance of Informative and Entertaining
The podcasts are smartly crafted, well-written, a nice balance of entertaining and informative. Good work. Glad I stumbled upon it (another platform *cough* Shmotoshmy *cough* ) Thanks for the work.

Amazing history from a unique perspective
Already my favorite podcast of all time! Every story is so fresh and interesting. It’s all the stuff you’ve never heard of but wish you had. Look, there are enough podcasts about World War II and Abraham Lincoln in the world. What about the rest of the (weird, fascinating, amazing) people who have ever lived? That’s The Constant. It’s funny, bingeable, super well-written and researched, and full of heart. Every episode is a banger. (The most recent one “It’s Never Over” was one of the best ever.) Mark Chrisler is a treasure to humanity. Listen and subscribe!

    Must Listen
While the host sometimes misses the mark... At least as far as I am concerned, the podcast is well done, well produced, well documented and enjoyable. A good listen. A very good listen. Listen with an open mind and you will be rewarded.

    Historical trivia everyone should know
Great podcast filled with immeasurable historical trivia we should all know but will never be able to remember to the point of recalling on demand.

This is normally something I’d like but the way it’s presented is off putting. I listened to an episode on another podcast and I had to stop midway through because the arrogance was off the charts and logical fallacies abounded. The unfortunate episode in question was whether whales are fish. The host spends an inordinate amount of time time hating on Aristotle because he thinks he’s superior without seeming to realize Aristotle didn’t have access to the internet and the collective wisdom of OTHER PEOPLE. It’s very easy to draw conclusions in hindsight. I also find it very perplexing that he attempts to imply that Aristotle is wrong when he wasn’t, whales aren’t fish they’re marine mammals. Or that because Aristotle was wrong about other things that somehow makes him wrong about this? That’s not the way that works, you can simultaneously be wrong about one thing and right about another. I kept waiting for him to get to the point but apparently we had to go through every other historical figures attempt at classification and his hindsight opinions on the matter before getting to that and I just didn’t have the patience for it. Apparently a lot of people like their “history” with a lot of opinion and atrocious jokes but that’s going to be a hard pass for me.

    Thanks for the childhood memory
I am listening from the beginning and I just hit the episode about what ruined America and thank you for bringing up Ramtha. Having grown-up in Washington and knowing a few of those followers, I remember a horrible joke. My mom once said she would start her own group for 50% off and name the deity Damtha. I will let myself out.

Leaves you wanting more in the best way
Love this show - the topics, the asides, the extra tidbits. Just wish there were more frequent episodes, even if they were a bit shorter.

    Great idea, poor delivery
I like the idea of this podcast and it has potential as well as a couple decent episodes, but the cussing and the snobby liberal perspective get old fast. In a world where cussing is normalized it still comes across as shallow and unprofessional and don’t get me started on the liberal mumbo jumbo. Do without these and you will have an avid listener.

Entertaining, funny, enlightening. Just down right enjoyable.

    Great concept
I love the subject mater and sensibility but don’t like the direction the unlistenable background music has gone lately.

    Great show!
I checked out this cast after hearing it referenced in an episode of “Our Fake History” and am glad I did. Mark is entertaining and knowledgeable while serving up a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you’re a fan of OFH or “Hardcore History”, check this show out!

Funny and informative podcast that puts a spotlight on epistemological failures
The presenter is very erudite, a great writer, and has a good sense of humor and comedic timing. I would invite the listener to listen to any of the episodes before “The Foolkiller”. Everything before that was pretty top notch. Everything was tight.” Episodes since then suffer from - higher production values? Lots of audio effects and musical interludes that don’t justify the time spent.

    “Mesmerizing!”
Well researched and entertainingly delivered. The background music drives me absolutely nuts sometimes (dial it back a notch or three, pretty please?) but the content more than makes up for it. This is my new favorite!

    Great podcast
I find this podcast refreshing! Interesting topics from an eyes wide open perspective. And a lot of humor

    My favorite
Have to say this is probably my favorite podcast. Every episode is very well produced and the topics vary widely so you never know what you are going to get. I’m always excited when a new episode shows up in my feed.

    A rare jewel of a podcast, but…
I’ve only listened to the last three episodes, but I love the stories and production so far. My only critique is the host’s cloying sarcasm. The episodes Rock Bottomless Parts 1 & 2 would have been so much more enjoyable if the host hadn’t made it clear from the get-go that he thinks everyone involved is a total doofus. As listeners, we can figure that out for ourselves and if it takes us until the end of the episode to do so, that’s great / less boring. (The werewolf episode was much better in this regard and had a PERFECT ending.) I’m still giving it 5 stars because of strength of concept. I’m hoping the host will gain more confidence in his material so he won’t need to resort to the audible eye rolling (a trap a lot of young writers fall into). My friendly advice is let the story stand on its own, don’t attempt to guide the listener’s judgement, and don’t force the humor.

I, for one, am here especially for the pretentious noise.
  • LanternRouge1706
    Remarkable storytelling but…
This podcast does one of the best job telling stories and making episodes from history of any podcast I’ve ever listened to. The presenter unfortunately has an annoying habit of holding historical figures to today’s ideological norms, which unfortunately gives people the idea that people from 200 (or 2000) years ago saw and understood the world exactly as we do. It’s a gallingly shortsighted and selfish way to present historical topics.
  • Siperhawk65
    I love this Podcast!!!
The stories are awesome! You’ll love it too!
  • sooty chat
Liked topics but not tone of host…
Tidbits from diverse historical eras and regions are covered quite well. But the host sounds excited to a high pitch, is self-referential and needs to calm the presentation down. And throwing in random fact-comparisons, such as (in a recent episode) how something lasted the duration of a Kurosawa movie, is not funny or even quirky, just makes for pretentious noise. [Addendum 1] Kashi is not in the southeast of India. Need to consult maps and review/edit before recording episodes. [Addendum 2] No need for such intrusive music while providing historical information. The Semmelweis episode was unlistenable.

It may not be for everyone, but i bet YOU would love it!
This is astonishingly good, and the creator seems to have not only a historian's training, but enough knowledge of scientific thinking that he doesn't say things that are flat-out ignorant. He has a great ear for drama, mystery, and issues in the philosophy of science / pseudoscience and the flood of misinformation that pervades some sectors of our current mediascape! A welcome tonic.

    You should listen!
I recently discovered The Constant and have been devouring the episodes. The episodes are both super interesting in content and so well told in form. Mark is a great storyteller, and he has got great stories to tell. Updated to add my 9-year-old’s review: “The way he tells a story is really good, it makes me excited. But sometimes he says the F-word.” This is a rousing endorsement, as she is bored by all other podcasts I listen to.

    Good company!!
Finally listening after months of recommendations by a friend! Super interesting and informative, and the perfect tone to just play on and on if you need a cheery voice in your ear. 5 stars!

    Love it
Great podcast! I wish I had discovered it sooner, but then I wouldn’t be able to binge all the old episodes while stuck in self-isolation with COVID.
  • Tireauclair
Would be 5 except the politics and Disney.
Some stories are fantastically interesting topics that deserve 5 stars. The ones that devolve into politics are not well researched and are often factually inaccurate and biased. The death in Disney episode was not enjoyable.

    577556 stars!!!
Mark Chrisler is like the most dynamic, energetic history professor you’ve ever had, going deep into topics that probably were missed by your history books. Now I am love with his wife Heather, who took over an episode to give Mark a bit of a spring break with a perfect episode about Walt Disney World. Thank you Heather, come back any time!

    Ugh, Aristotle!
Great listen. I’m a new listener and plowing through the back catalog thanks to a recommendation from an acquaintance. Mark does a great job of presenting historical errors in a sensitive (when needed) and entertaining manner. If you’re new to this podcast, you need to listen to the first ones to understand the running Aristotle joke. Then listen the rest in whatever order you wish. Cheers!

    Great podcast
I’ve followed this podcast for ages and love it so much. Ever so often I go back and revisit some old favorite episodes. Learning about obscure and cool history is fun and I think the host does an amazing job providing enough detail without getting bogged down. I love this podcast and have made several friends listen to it. It also lets me tell people cool facts and seem wayyyyy smarter and better informed that I really am and I love that!
  • Nyxator13
    Can’t recommend this podcast enough
There’s so much we know about everything now (or so we think). I love hearing about what we USED to think was true. Mark has a great sense of humor, and really does his research. I may be wrong about a lot of things, but I’m not wrong about this.
  • KeelHaulUm
    Too bad
A liberal’s soapbox under the guise of a history podcast. What a waste.
  • Fred and his Incredible Sheep-Shrinking Grateful Airplanes
    Great deep dive episodes
When Mark devotes more than one episode to a topic, it's going to be a real treat, because he does the research and isn't afraid to present new evidence that upends his previous episodes (see the multi-episode "Foolkiller" saga). One of Chicago's best current exports!

    So Good!
I keep recommending this podcast because nobody knows how to tell a story like Mark Chrisler, but not enough people believe me. Too bad they’re all getting it wrong…
  • Roberto Gabalone
    Pretty entertaining & informative
Not a bad history podcast. Entertaining & informative. Unfortunately it is very left-biased (I know, suprising, right?) and the host thinks he is extremely clever or cutesy sometimes when he is just being cringey. Having said that though I really do enjoy the show and appreciate how he will add a disclaimer in the beginning of some of the episodes that contain a woke rant or mostly current political commentary (aka garbage, not what I am here for). That way I can avoid wasting time on episodes that I am not interested in, and would probably turn me off of the show. The host clearly is passionate about telling these stories, and I hope he keeps at it. Please, Mark, continue with the short disclaimer intro to episodes that include a lot of political commentary. I really appreciate it, allows me to enjoy the podcast much more. I wish other history podcasts would do the same.

    Witty, Funny, Opinionated
Chrysler is the bane of Aristotle.
  • @thecreative
    Well crafted storytelling
Mark is good when he gets things right, but he’s even better when he gets things wrong. It’s nice to have the storyteller break the fourth wall, to be honest with listeners. You will feel “awakened” with every episode. You will also learn how much of an impact freakin Aristotle has made on western culture and the stories we repeatedly and sometimes falsely tell each other. Mark is doing the Lord’s work.

Used to be top 5 podcasts
Used to be Revolutions, Carlin, LPOTL, and The Constant. But then the constant got poisoned by woke politics and the 5 stars turned into 2

Is there not a single historical Christmas story?
Real people aren’t having the war on Christmas debate. If you celebrate Christmas great, if not, that’s fine too. Your Christmas episode devolved into nothing more than a roast of every conservative media person who’s ever mentioned Christmas. Listeners do not care about how much you hate conservatives, or how woke you are. We used to listen for the interesting historical topics. You’re alienating not just to those who disagree with your political viewpoint, but also to the people who just don’t want to think about politics 24/7, I have other shows for political takes. I liked this podcast because it delved into interesting historical topics. Seriously, what the heck did you just subject me to?
