Nate SwannThe Wait Begins…For the last year, I’ve been working through the “back catalogue” of this great podcast. I started with a few topics of interest, then because I liked the podcast and Sebastian’s style, I started from the beginning. Eventually, I started supporting the show via Patreon, and listened to the extra episodes, and now I’ve hit that fateful point where I have to start waiting for episodes… It really is an amazing podcast, and now I’ll look forward to this notifications every two weeks to let me know that a new episode is available…maybe one day, you’ll hit that point too, person who reads the reviews to determine if they want to start listening!

Mouse2620Great!Was looking for a new long form history podcast for some time. I’m very picky with what I listen to but this is right up my alley! Also the host kind of sounds like Jeff probst
-
DaisygirlmeI really enjoy history and this is the real thing!I listen in my car all the time. My sister asked me why I didn’t listen to a regular radio station and I said why would I listen to that when I have this! I started at the first episode and am now waiting for the newest 2024 episode!

Dok4311Yaaaaassassin’s Creed!Dude, Sebastian- this is wild that you mention AC for this series. When you did the series on the Olympics I went back and played AC Odyssey, which is set in Ancient Greece. While I agree the history that gets weaved into that story is not super accurate, I wanted to share two things that go along with a recommendation for you to play the game. First and foremost- the world is GORGEOUS. They really make the Greek islands feel like a real place, and part of the game is finding actual historical locations. BUT ALSO- your favorite fake historian is one of the main characters… Herodotus, father of history, father of lies. The characters interact with him a lot, so I’d be really curious to find out what you think of the portrayal. That is, of course, if I ever make it to Canada and get to meet you and/or see Dirty Church play. Keep rocking, my dude! -Doug Kiphut Ancient Assassin and Amateur Historian

AvidpodlistenerA unique and informative podcastOFH is unique in the way it covers history and the myths of history that you didn’t think you needed to know, but that’s one of the reasons that makes it great! Sebastian’s narration and voice speak to you the way a podcaster/broadcaster should, clearly and with respect to his listeners that a lot of podcasts do not do. One of the most unique and awesome things about this podcast, is the MUSIC. From the main theme song to the bumper music between chapters, which I believe is played by the host himself, ( I could be wrong) but either way, it’s done so well and it’s consistent to the point where regular listeners or new listeners will know that there’s a break in between chapters that are needed and help divide all the information that you just absorbed. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

$partyWell worth the listen! So happy I found this podcast. Most of my day is spent either in the car or with headphones on, so I devour podcast episodes like I’m Cookie Monster at the Nabisco factory. I love history podcasts and this show is (in my humble opinion) among the top 3 history podcasts out there. Masterfully narrated and exceptionally produced, I’m never disappointed. Bravo Zulu OFH!

J ClamColosseum videoColosseum video were the guys in charge of selling the video to the distributor which sold to the video store. As an example le of their kindness, Hillbilly Jim was hired as a rep after he was so hurt from the body breaking fake wrestling. Sincce we were selling tons of best selling product to video stores, I was really taken care of royalty and was sent gratis to matches all over the country, That was just good business. I was at the first summer slam, and I was at wrestlemania three. You can see me in the video because I am the only one wearing a suit and tie. I was also lucky enough to have had a long conversation with Freddie Blassie and talked about how crazy Andy Kaufman was.Yeah it was really fake, but Jerry Lawler gave Andy a very real permanently damaged neck. I grew up watching wrestling with my grandmother in St. Louis where Joe Garagiiola was the ring announcer! It was our Soap Opera. I was so privileged ito be a part of the WWF World and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Watch two wrestling movies: Howard Winkler in “The One and Only “ and the very sad documentary about Jake the Snake.Roberts. Oh yeah, Rowdy Roddy Piper was in the fake science fiction movie “They Live”. Thank you so much for taking me back to the wonderful people l met in the wrestling world. By the way, children under 11 really believe wrestling is real, just like Virginia believed in Santa Claus.

thecoolnerd56Great podcastThere is a lot of haters and I just want to say that he is a great guy with a great podcast so what if it’s his opinions. He’s just telling his take on stories some of you guys need to chill out and Sebastian your doing great

nxavisCaligulaThe Caligula series is some of the best history podcasting I’ve ever heard!
-
SthvlknnGood topics presented terriblyI’m 25 minutes into an episode, the topic from the title hasn’t been brought up once yet. He doesn’t say close to his mic and the sound goes in and out, I’ve checked my phone for an email like 10 times but it’s just an amateur podcaster not caring about listener experience. He repeats his personal thoughts over and over and over, through the sound issues he went on for 10 minutes about why he labels part one and two and never more than a trilogy just repeating it over and over. I thought it would be a good topic but he just won’t get there or stay close to the mic.

TVS in FNTGreat History PodcastWell researched, great topics and thoroughly entertaining

LarstherealdealofthedayMy movie walk outKingdom of heaven. I can overlook anything if a movie is entertaining. However, this is very boring. I got through the incomprehensible, over the top violence filmed like like the camera was being beaten by a loan shark. And the highschool play acting didn’t do it. But when they got to the scene where the European knight taught the people of the holy land how to irrigate and farm and whatever else in an extended montage, I’d had enough. I think specifically it was when he lifted the end of a makeshift wooden aquaduct (at least that’s how I remember it), that I pulled the plug. I love bad movies but this white savior fairy tale about the virtue of European civilization and gore porn, wasn’t even good for a giggle. It would be a brilliant satire of the films of the time, however, if they photo shopped Lesli Nelson’s face on Orlando bloom. I want that recut!
-
SkyGal311Excellent podcast.I’ve been listening for years and I look forward to each new show. Even if I don’t think I’m interested in a topic, I always end up being some what riveted
-
Fergie V.Great FindThe writing and story-telling is excellent. I like Sebastian’s style of giving good context, taking his time to weave the background, (without meandering), before actually diving into the story at hand. This is so important and missing from some podcasts that take a more short-hand approach. The topics are also v interesting, I’m finding so many to pick to listen. Am so glad I found this podcast, good job Sebastian. I was surprised and happy to hear you are Canadian.

Jimbo5301Such a WasteIf I roll my eyes any harder they’ll stick. He used to be good, though the quality has been dropping off lately. I absolutely cannot take anyone who uses “Latinx” seriously though. It’s like learning he’s a flat earther.
-
CwoowcGet to the pointFeels like the episodes are weighed down by sooooo much unnecessary discussion of tangentially related background info.
-
ArndisneyBoring…truly boringThe first couple years were fun…actually interesting. Now it seems the host is just it if material and desperate. #meh
-
JenniferJH520A deeper dive into real history, so fun! This is a great podcast! I listen in the mornings with my son, as we’re focusing on the medieval time period for homeschooling this year. There’s so many fun interesting stories on here and Sebastian actually digs deeper into them and finds the truth behind it, which is so fun! Thank you and highly recommended!
-
BetomlinPhenomenal ShowThis show is fantastic. Sebastian does an amazing job picking and researching topics.
-
Male LindsayEnthralledI am a big fan of this podcast. Sebastian brings the stories to life and looks at history in as objectively as possible. He is relatable but very knowledgeable. I feel like he does his research very diligently and brings light to familiar topics and also things that are obscure yet fascinating. Keep it up!
-
SgtswyfInformative fun for a history nerd!Absolutely love this podcast! I double majored in European history in college because I thought I loved European history (turns out I actually do after I got past the fact that Hollywood had totally ruined me and I would first have to recover from the broken heart that everything I thought I knew was a lie lol) This podcast very neatly tidies up theories and fact vs fiction in a way that even novice history nerds can follow along without being overwhelmed.
-
Shane1344GreatAs a hs history teacher this gives me tons of little fun facts to make things more interesting. Thanks Sebastian . Hope this gets to 500 episodes lol

Sean HarashackEpisode #72 - Did Emperor Hadrian Murder His Teenage Lover?Hey Sebastian You left out a fourth reason for Antinous’s death. Antinous may not have been a Homosexual, but was forced into it by Hadrian. Maybe Antinous wanted to marry a woman and become a father.

B1087ColumbusSebastian I was doing some research into my family history and found that in the mid 1800’s on both sides of my parents family My Great Great Great grandfathers are both named Christopher Columbus obviously at that time the myth of Columbus was at full steam. Just thought that was very interesting Love the podcast!

MFP3NCMental escapeSebastian supplies a top quality podcast that entertains, informs and helps this particular history teacher on summer vacation with a toddler, a vitally important mental escape. Our Fake History brings together compelling historical narratives, cultural misconceptions and transparent scholarship together in an in-depth and enjoyable format. The only downside to finding this pod is when you catch up to current episodes and have to wait for another. Wresting, the Huns, and debunking myths, what’s not to love about this amazing podcast?!?

Bobby snowshoesOne of the best podcastsI love this show. Sebastian always brings a wealth of knowledge and research to every subject he podcasts about. Occasionally there are subjects that I have no interest in at all, but they are usually the most interesting ones because I learn so much. Then he also covers topics I thought I knew everything there was to know and his research always defies that. I really look forward to every episode. I can’t wait for the next one!
-
Marie Haley JFinally a good podcastUsually when I search for new podcasts the hosts have irritating voices or don’t have good information, but this host has a voice that makes you want to keep listening. I love the topics that are covered great for road trips or if I don’t feel like listening to music. Even if you don’t know much about history he will go over enough background information to cover it this is probably my favorite podcast to listen to. Definitely recommend. 🤩

LowkeyhyperboleTop Gun AnalogyHaving a great time listening to this show, I have a week at home alone getting chores done and it feels like I've got a buddy to keep me company while I chip away. I'm sure the history is well researched, I can see the references, but mannnnn misquoting Top Gun [episode 5 : Shakespeare] in such a suggestive way (which I'm sure was unintentional) has got to get you roasted as a high school teacher! Or at least lose control of a classroom for a period. Hilarious. I'll just pretend that little malapropism was for all of us mowing the lawn instead of playing shirtless beach volleyball. Anyway, you can BE MY WINGMAN anytime, Ice. We'll return to the episode after a brief Kenny Loggins break. "Hey Siri, queue "Playin with the boys"

TyrantElfA GiftI cannot rave enough about Sebastian Major’s “Our Fake History”. I’m a historian and audio learner. I’ve followed several accomplished history podcasts, and find this series top-notch, both in content and presentation. Sebastian approaches his themes with enthusiasm and an open mind. He is as curious about the outcome of his research as are his listeners. I enjoy his vivid descriptions, variety of topics covered, and smooth delivery. He welcomes audience engagement and collaboration with other podcasters. His series came recommended by fellow history podcasters; he’s gained due respect from his peers. His appreciation for others’ work is without ego, just joy in exploring the world of audio education. I have greatly enjoyed other established podcasters (Dan Carlin, History on Fire, History of the Papacy, etc.), and appreciate Sebastian’s condensed format as well. His series are not bound by a sequentional timeline, allowing listeners to choose their preferred topic. Sebastian's mad guitar and composition skills are a bonus. The artwork created for each episode deserves recognition. Looks like I have raved enough.😉 Give “Our Fake History” a listen and see if you aren’t immediately hooked.

Phenix_2099An amazing show with an entertaining host! You don’t know you love history till you hear Sebastian tell it… Or rather, correct what you think you know about it. Be it pop culture, naiveté, biased education systems, or just plain old telephone game over time, Sebastian does his darnedest to set us all on the path to rightness by explaining not only what has gone wrong over time, but explaining what we know of what was actually right. This he manages to do with as much objectivity as he can, (as long as you are not a conspiracy theory novelist, that is…) with his witty, humorous take on weaving a tale. Do some topics run a bit long? Sure. But will you still listen with avid curiosity? You bet you will!

HistoryLvr42Learning is funI absolutely adore this podcast. It is such a fun way to not only learn the history, but even more fun to learn what other stories are out there that really have nothing to do with history. 8+ plus plus I love this.
-
UltraPrecisionEngineerWhat an awesome show!Sebastian is an incredible narrator, and brings so much life to what I used to deem a boring subject. I just wish I had been fortunate enough to have him as my history teacher in high school.
