Thank you, I am enjoying this so much. You are a gifted storyteller.

    Comfort podcast
I must have listened to this podcast from start to finish at least 6 times by now. It’s my favorite cozy story to listen to while I fantasize about a life as a wealthy house wife in New England. Mixing ghosts with waspy east coast moms is unexpectedly satisfying. Hydrangeas and shadow figures? Its perfect.

Great Stories by a woman I would totally share my ghost stories with
Liz hooked me in the first episode. I have my own ghost stories and these are amazing. On top of a great voice and great stories is a caring, swearing and snarky woman who I would definitely be friends with. Thank you for giving me a respite from the real world.

Get Ready for a WILD ride
I thought this was just going to be another cookie cutter ghost story pod, but it’s SO much more. Hold on to your freaking hat. Seriously. Liz is a brilliant storyteller and a good person. I’m utterly hooked.

I’ve listened all the way through multiple times
I don’t like to play favorites, but… I have listened to this podcast, including the books and the mini-series story, multiple times. It can go from snarky to spooky to terrifying in a single episode. The balancing act of being a suburbanite and surrounded by things that go bump in the night is handled really well. I also really like that it’s not over-produced. You can sometimes hear the dogs snoring in the background, and it’s clearly not recorded in a recording studio with someone ensuring absolute perfection. This works SO well for this show! It feels more like Liz is just getting back to her house after dealing with these things and doing a version of an audio diary. I could go on and on!

    Liz is a regular person!
I love this podcast. Liz has the perfect voice and I love “it’s not for kids” , I love she has snarky thoughts and says swear words. It all makes my 65 year old heart smile Keep up the great work

too much emphasis on brands + aesthetics
Not sure if this is just custom the early seasons, but the first few (1-10) episodes read like the grown-up version of a Mary Sue fanfiction. There’s too much emphasis on the brand names of the clothing people wear, and it is really really annoying. If I have to hear about a gingham collared shirt or Chanel bag one more time, death by fire poker to the ear sounds a bit alluring. It is giving very white suburb, not a Karen, but a Mackenzie vibe and I can’t take it. You can tell the author sits on Pinterest all day pinning beige and basic living rooms. Other than that, the stories themselves are ok. The narrator trips over her words every few minutes though and I’m just wondering why there were no edits to redo them? Maybe a low budget? Anyway, this is great if you have absolutely nothing else to listen to and you want something easy while you work or clean and cannot pay close attention. Maybe the writing, narration and basically everything else improves in the newer episodes. Giving them 3 stars for average because it is somewhat entertaining and it started in 2016.

Safe scare & cozy corner of the podcast world 👻
Love it over here in GITB land! Tune in for a safe, but very creepy scare. I’ll sometimes put it on in the background because Liz Sower’s narrating is excellent & honestly, I’d listen to her read anything! Notice that people’s only complaint is not having more episodes because they can’t get enough & a small group of weirdos rating the podcast poorly because they feel some type of way that Liz chooses to be kind & compassionate on her own podcast. These stories are a cozy treat, so don’t miss out!

    Great Storytelling Podcast!
Having now listened to all the episodes, I can say that Liz Sower is a great storyteller and an engaging host. She is able to easier convey dread and fear juxtaposed with humor throughout. Sure, there are times when she doesn’t follow her own history or continuity, but it helps to think of this podcast more of an anthology than a one long-winding tale. Sower is creative and inventive with her creatures. She does an excellent job of hooking the listener, even if she doesn’t quite stick the landings or bring satisfying conclusions to more than a handful of her episodes. I guess on that point, she very much IS like Stephen King. This podcast is not perfect, but it is EXCELLENT and well worth your time. Ignore the right-wing reviewers who rate this podcast low because they want to make bizarre political points for a storytelling podcast and want to complain about imagined “wokeness.” Sower’s personal beliefs of being kind and compassionate to others are not political. She is just demonstrating being a good human being. The added occasional F-bombs are a glorious bonus. In any case, this podcast deserves a huge audience.

Someone Give This Lady a TV Show!
This lovely lady is just the perfect stand in for every mid 30’s -mid 40’s mom in suburbia; she is kind, fascinating, and vulnerable in just the right way. Liz is the Angela Lansbury of quiet, cozy horror. I listen when I have boring things to do and if I didn’t have this podcast my house would be an even bigger mess and my kids would exclusively be eating cheerios. Thank you, Liz!

This is my favorite podcast. It totally immerses me into the fictional Wellsley where I can feel like a fly on the wall of the "neighbors" houses. Liz is giving Stephen King a run for his money. Actually, her story telling may be better! I relisten to the podcast every Halloween. I only wish there were more to enjoy!

    Repeat listener first time reviewer
I’m on my second play through. I love Liz’s conversational style. And I love her admitted unreliable narrator status!

    Absolutely the BEST
I have been listening to Liz Sower for a couple of months now. The stories are so good!! Her voice is so friendly!! Her tales are cosy, scary, informative, relatable, human and NOT human!!! I can’t believe how Ms Sower does not run out of great ideas, and paints a whole world in Wellesley, MA, that you scratch your head and wonder where the line is drawn between fact and fiction. Half her proper nouns are Google-able. Such a fun fun ride, that just doesn’t seem to end (the blog has even more content, and there’s always the option to listen again… it doesn’t get old!). I highly recommend, even for people who *don’t* like a good ghost story. :)

    Stopped listening
Good podcast, but stopped listening once I realized she’s a woke social justice warrior spreading lies and propaganda. Just keep your political opinions out of story telling. Go woke, go broke. So gross.

    All time fav!
I am on my 3rd straight through listen of all the episodes. Liz is a great story teller, I legit cried when she at one point said she was ending the interviews, and squeed with joy when she started back up. I love how the stories evolve and connect. I may not relate at all to the Wellesley way of life but I feel like I know every one of these real people! Liz is as real as it gets, you get all of her. Thank you Liz!!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE
OMG I love the way Liz writes! I am always so into what the characters wear and constantly crave coffee and a dessert while listening to this podcast! I totally feel like I am hanging with a friend who gets all the spookiness that I love as all! I’ve listened to this series three times already and it gets me through work. Keep it up!! So obsessed!

I’ve been a listener from day 1 of Ghosts in the Burbs, and it’s my #1 comfort show. Whenever I need to unwind & relax I re-listen to Liz’s scary tales. They are the perfect blend of captivating, spooky & fun. Thanks for sharing your gift with us, Liz!

Fun, fun, fun and spooky too
I accidentally found this podcast, and now I’ve put my other podcast on pause. Spooky stories and I love Liz’s voice.

    Words can’t even express
Words can’t even express how much I love this show. Liz tells stories that are equal parts relatable and so hilarious and (importantly) aaactually scary. I started listening at the very beginning of the pandemic and when there were no more episodes, I believed it was all over for forever. Cut to 2024 when - to my wild delight and surprise - so much more story has happened. Ive listened multiple times now. Its kinda my safe space or something… sincerely. I feel good hearing about life in this world. Thank you infinity, Liz 💚

    A Paranormal Treasure
Liz Sower is a TREASURE. While so many podcasts feel like a ceiling fan, Liz presents us with the equivalent of a refreshing ocean breeze (a New England breeze fresh off the brisk Atlantic, of course). This podcast easily distinguishes itself from the rest. It’s unique, creative and highly addictive. Liz is immensely talented and I love following along on her writing journey (Liz, you have the “it”). Do yourself a favor and give this a listen (from the beginning) and a 5-star review. We have to support the great creators out there!

    Cozy little ghosty
I’m listening to the pod for the 4th time. I just love it so much. Liz is such a great storyteller!she’s funny and clever and is so relatable. There are some episodes that get me so creeped out I need to sleep with a light on. And I love that! Give her a listen! And make sure to start from episode one! Ps these ghost stories aren’t for kids! 😉

    Ignorant AH
Love this chick!!! She asks people to contact her about ghost stories. She sits with these people as they tell their story. She listens in understanding nods. After the meeting she goes back to where she came from and writes up the podcast. In the podcast she proceeds to cuss out the story teller stating how dare they invite her into their haunted home. Cussing out the victim in writing because she doesn’t have the balls to tell them in their face. You ask for stories then disrespects them on this crappy sounding podcast. What a joke!! Doesn’t help your an ugly leftist with a voice that can cause ab********.

    My favorite!!
This show is my go to and I’m always so sad when I’m out of episodes. Liz is a phenomenal story teller that makes listening enjoyable and easy. If you like spooky things I highly recommend!

    comfort pod
Love the perfectly titered combination of modern-classic spooky stories, New England charm, and of course the narration that makes the magic happen. This podcast is like being warm and perfectly cozy inside during a stormy NE day — aka my ideal vibe at all times.

    A well needed surprise
I’ve been craving a GITB fix and had resigned myself to waiting for the fall, when this popped up in my new episodes feed. Perfect summer story and with Claire back! A home run.

    Hits the spot!
GITB came across my browse screen not long ago and I took a chance. I was hooked and binged all the episodes! It’s really the first fiction narrative type podcast I’ve enjoyed. Liz is an excellent narrator in both writing and the reading of her work. It’s really fun. Thank you Liz!

One of my favorites but I had to stop listening.
Ghosts in the burbs is hands down one of my favorite podcasts. The stories are compelling and concise. Liz has managed to create a world with easy to follow characters and storylines. One thing about her that I appreciated was her unapologetic sense of self and her charitable outreach. Every April, our shared birthday month, she would launch a charitable fundraiser. It was disheartening that this year while the world is more aware then ever of the many active genocides going on she chose not to launch her fundraiser. That along with her sudden lack of commentary before and after the stories have led me to the decision to stop my support of the show. Ik some have the stance that”not everything has to be political” this isn’t politics it’s humanity and the fact that she used to have a pretty vocal stance on matters of the world such as this and now she doesn’t is telling.

    Lovely and spooky!
My Mom sent me this podcast after being obsessed with it herself. I started from the beginning and I’ve been binging 8+ years of content in the last few months! It’s such a delight. Liz is an amazing writer and storyteller. I can visualize everything she says and it makes the stories come to life! I appreciate Liz’s hard work on creating Ghosts in the Burbs! It’s one of my favorite parts of the day!
  • Jaffajaf
    Such a talented writer
Liz, I am always so impressed by your stories. Keep honing your craft and your stories with will be among the sharpest out there. (Also, the sound of your doggo snoring under your narration is incredibly endearing)

    There You Are!!!!
As much as I LOVE The Swells, I’m LOVING There You Are! I don’t mind at all waiting for your AMAZING content as you live your life and thoughtfully compose the next delicious bits for us to devour!

    So much fun
Humor, suburban social commentary, creatively creepy stories, Liz’s sweet voice. I’ve listened to tons of podcasts, this one stands out in a category all it’s own. I can’t explain it to you, just listen for yourself & escape to this little world where underneath pretty places & people are hidden hauntings that leave no one safe (or sane!).
  • mbrist
Perfectly spooky & a longtime favorite!
I'm addicted to safe scares told through podcasts & shows, but I cringe at overly intense sound effects & things being taken too seriously. This podcast is a perfect mix of safe spooky stories & humor. I can't count how many times I've relistened to the entire series. Give it a go already! 👻

    Engaging and really good potential
I have listened to this podcast for a few months now and I have heard every single episode twice. I love the idea of a horror that clings to the most ideal members of our society. The shame, secrecy, and paranoia within suburbia makes the podcast what it is. The first few dozen episodes were amazing and you built the most uncomfortable tension. The original story of Claire and Lilith are definitely highlights of the podcast. But most individual stories and the podcast as a whole are lacking a big thing: any sort of resolution. For a while, I forgave it because I was waiting for everything to culminate in something big. That hasn’t really happened yet. It feels like you keep saying things are ramping up and something big is coming, but that limbo has lasted for too long. It’s scary to do something dramatic, but I think some big apocalyptic event has to happen. Something that ropes in everyone and this supernatural world that has been a massive open secret in Wellesley is so bad that no one can ignore it anymore. You got close when you “ended” the podcast (I’m very glad you didn’t end it), but even then it didn’t seem like a much bigger event than any normal episode of the podcast. I hope you do take the jump because I think the overall story is great, but right now you are stuck in the moment right before the levy breaks. You have to let it happen. Secondly, you introduce a lot of plots only to completely resolve them in one episode. Let these things linger, let it build up. If you let a lot of issues start to weigh “you”, then they can help trigger the major event. There are so many interesting ways you and your inner circle could trigger the apocalypse or become aware of it beforehand and have to stop it. Even though this might be a bit of a harsh review, I genuinely do like the podcast. Despite the issues, I have listened to the entire thing, kept up with new episodes, and I’m leaving a review. The show is engaging and your audience likes you enough to grow with you. I’m also a creative writing student in college and I just spent an entire semester critiquing stories. I hope you see this!

    My Favorite Podcast
I LOVE this podcast. I’ve listened to every episode since the beginning! I favor the cozy scary stories over the apocalyptic or true crime influenced ones.

Ghosts in the Burbs is my favorite podcast! Liz is an incredible story teller.

    So good, I’m re-listening!
I first started listening to this show two years ago, and when I tell you I COULD NOT STOP LISTENING. I caught up and eagerly was awaiting every new episode when, last year, I finally decided to restart it. Then again, a couple weeks ago, I decided to, AGAIN, restart the podcast and listen to everything from the very beginning. It’s so spooky, and so gripping! Thanks for keeping me entertained at work, on my walks, and any time I need a spooky escape from my day to day!

Liz you are amazing!! I have been obsessed with Ghosts in the Burbs from the very beginning!! I really hope you continue to put episodes out because you are so talented!! I have tried so many different podcasts similar to yours but nothing compares!! I don’t know what I would do if you stopped putting episodes out! I just want to thank you for taking time to release new episodes when you have such a busy schedule already!

    My favorite series 👻
Listening to GitB is like snuggling up in a large warm blanket with a hot cuppa, and watching a big juicy thunderstorm loom on the horizon. I savor every new release and revisit older eps with increasing regularity. Liz has the ability to take the mundane droll of everyday life, scary as that already is, and sprinkle in shadowy-figures-standing-just-outside-of-your-periphery chills. Her dialogue is so naturalistic, and her narration is clear, soothing, and familiar as catching up with an old friend. Thanks for making exactly the perfect show for me Liz!

    Great story teller!
I love this podcast, I have listened more than once, every episode is so unique and captivating.

    Favorite spooky author and Podcast!!!!
I always smile ear to ear when I see a new episode has posted on Ghost in the Burbs!! I love listening to author Liz Sowers speak her spooky and mysterious adventures each episode and revealing such exciting new plot twist!! I never want it to end !! It’s utter torture knowing I have to wait (what seems like years for another episode to finally pop up as new again in my podcast library! 😩😉 But in the end it is absolutely worth it!!! Your episodes take me away to that small town in your podcast and the haunting and supernatural experiences all of the characters are living !!! It’s so exciting!! Thank you for sharing with us your intriguingly spooky podcast and books!! You are a creative author & not that my opinion is by any means life changing ..lol I just felt that in my personal experience, when a stranger wants to share Kindness and positive affirmation it actually feels foreign !! :( Because sadly in this world now a day all I seem to hear or read about is hate or criticism being expressed to one another :(… So I just wanted to say that to me you are so fun to listen too!! And your work as an author & story teller is very much appreciated and enjoyed!! Thank you and keep on being awesome!

    Love!!!
Listening to these stories for the fourth time. Still just as fantastic.

    Terrifying(ly amazing)!
I decided to pick up GITB two weeks ago to start spooky season. I was immediately enthralled. Liz’s sweet voice is such a soothing balm, and the stories are actually pretty scary. I love her transparency on life as a mom (I’m a big time hot mess mom here)- so she’s so freaking relatable. And her writing? *chefs kiss* I am saddened because I’m all caught up, but the only good thing about that is now I can listen to Claire (and buy the book because I gotta support the writer). If you’re looking for a really spooky, engaging story? THIS. THIS IS IT. It’s like Magnus Archive, but suburban mom style and I absolutely love that. Edit to add: I’m back binging again for a 2nd time and the stories are still just as engaging and spooky! I love that Liz is still giving us little bits here and there, and I ravenously devour the new episodes. Seriously. Listen to this.

    Crazy good
This is such a great podcast. I was not expecting this to all connect, I’m on episode 11 right now and I’m stoked to listen to the rest!
