    Could be 5 stars
When this podcast is humming it’s the best RPG podcast around but is stymied by the nearly constant negativity. Pair this with inane and biased industry “discussion”, constant interruptions by Nadia, Eric’s contrarian takes and tendency to refocus any discussion around FF10, and you have a 3 star podcast. I’ll still tune in every week because there’s still more good than bad, it’s just disappointing to watch/listen to a group that could be so awesome constantly shooting themselves in the foot. I hope the gang reads this and I’ll be thrilled to update my review if things change for the better.

    Great pod!
So happy to have discovered this :) looking forward to having a new fav pod in rotation this year
  • o3o_o3o
    good guests, too industry focused.
nadia is excellent. tons of interesting guests, kat and eric are two of the most industry brained hosts ever, nearly completely detached from the art of video games and focusing far too much on corporate nonsense.
  • Slim Dubba
    My Favorite
Every episode is replete with rpg love but it’s the chemistry between Kat, Nadia, and Eric that will forever endear you to this show. Nook or pit, it’s a winner.
  • Adol45
    Usually pretty good.
Overall the show offers fun, informative discussions on RPGs. I think the co-hosts Kat and Nadia have grown and become more nuanced and seem to respond well to constructive criticism. The follow-up correction episode they made to missing tons of RPGs on the TG-16 and PC Engine for their Console RPG Quest series is a great example. Continue to evolve and grow.

    Good Pod
Good pod. Here’s my review. 5/5.

    boring
this whole podcast needs a lot more structure. only bearable at 2x speed. informational density is extremely low. the guy is full of himself and cringe.

    AoBG forever!
I start my week with the Blood God crew and listen all week long. Love the topics, guest speakers and relationships that Nadia, Kat and Eric share.

    One BIG issue
Eric’s affected “deep voice” is so awful. He’s clearly trying to sound “radio sexy” and it makes me cringe so hard I’m getting a hernia from it. He’s knowledgeable, and I like what he has to say, but drop the voice pls.

    Put me to sleep
The hosts of this show sound like they haven’t slept in days. There is no energy and very monotone. They know their stuff, but my gosh, show some enthusiasm!
  • Tommypad311

Love the pod. Thanks for the insights.

    Awesome podcast!
Kay Bailey and the crew are awesome, really insightful and fun to listen to. Just found this podcast and wish I knew about it sooner

    Weird
Pod went out their way to attack obsidian because of the spacers choice edition. But I don’t think they understand that publisher, private division, put out that edition. Also says final fantasy 16 has to sell 20-30 million copies when it’s a ps5 exclusive and there are only 20-30 million consoles.

This RPG newbie LOVES the Blood God
I’ve never really been an RPG player. Then I heard Kat on Retronauts - and that led me to this wonderful show. Their conversations are both smart and entertaining - and they’ve led me into a whole new world of games. If you want to get into RPGs, it’s dangerous to go alone. Take this podcast with you.

You had my curiosity, now you have my attention
I’ve known of this podcast for a while because I love hearing Kat on various IGN podcasts. So I decided to pick a random recent one to listen to, and what do I find you all talking about at the end but one of my all time favorite games and my number one “For the love of everything someone remake or remaster this game!!”, Skies of Arcadia. Consider me subscribed to this podcast

    Knowledgeable but Boring
These guys don’t do a lot for me. Their non-game and political comments should be discarded.

    Excellent show
I look forward to this show every week. The hosts know SO much about games and they help me keep tabs on all the cool RPGs coming out. Lots of fun to listen to.

    I just can't anymore.
Love Kat. Love Nadia. Absolutely cannot listen to Eric "mmm hmmm, mmm hmmm, mmm hmmm, mmm hmmm" nonstop when other people are talking. The content of the show is good, but unless you like listening to someone grunt and make other noises continuously over the person who is talking, find something else. I can't imagine why the person editing the show hasn't thought it was a good idea to just turn off his audio track when he isn't talking like a normal human. Poor.
  • Pierogies814
Used to be my favorite podcast…
but I’m so tired of the endless lip service to activism though. It’s a shame because Kat is an incredibly talented journalist and podcaster, but I think I’ll just enjoy listening to her elsewhere from now on.
  • Beastwulf
    Brightening every week with content!
This is a great podcast! The hosts give amazing energy and I don’t want to think of a week without them. Kudos for the way they keep innovating with the format, too…it shows they really listen and care about the community that has formed up around them!

Excited to Find the Podcast, but Kat!!
I listen to dozens of hours of video game podcasts a week so when I found this from IGN’s NVC I was so delighted! I really enjoy Kat’s takes, other hosts I was introduced to here are awesome, and the focus on one of my favorite genres to play was the cherry on top. I won’t dwell on this point, because it’s not the point of the podcast, but I really appreciate the LGBT+ inclusive atmosphere - just casually mentioning playing with a partner, understanding basic pronouns, mentioning game/developer/IP issues others might gloss over, etc. It’s just not commonplace I hear that where I’m from, but it’s very nice. BUT Kat please work on being… nicer? Or make a little more room for others is a better way to put it? I didn’t notice until this podcast over other appearances (and I get that this is your podcast specifically), but you very frequently interrupt or railroad others. Frequently dismissive of others opinions too. I get that you’re spicy and can argue your point, but sometimes it seems a little pushy or hateful. A podcast is 1% improv and vibing on each other and when you say ‘no that’s not the case at all’ instead of asking someone why they think that it can get frustrating to listen to. Now listening back to NVC I bite my cheek sometimes listening to you interrupt Peer, the grand Poobah of IGN (which I love thank you for all the hard work there). Of course he values your opinion, and listeners do to. Sometimes just let others share their ideas while you hold on to yours just a bit longer. Still great show and content, keep it up.
  • RonnieJ0930
    Good and cringe
I love listening to these guys talk about video games but when they talk about current events or politics it’s so cringe that I quit listening for weeks or months, come back and it’s more cringe like 15 minutes into an episode. If a creator is attached to anything these guys talk about with a “wrong” social opinion don’t expect an honest review here. Actually if you want to just get away from from the daily goings on this probably isn’t the place.
  • N2Indie
    Great rpg podcast
I regularly listen to Nintendo voice chat, which Kat is a part of but they don’t often have an rpg focus which is why I love this podcast so much. The energy, humor, and fun is there, but with that really nerdy juju that only rpg lovers can bring. I’m so happy to have found this.
  • max97212
    My favorite RPG podcast
Kat 5/5, Nadia 5/5 and Eric 2/5 gives a 4/5 average. A great show when Eric isn’t laughing nervously or being juvenile.
  • Thorlik
    What a great show!
Kat, Nadia, and Eric do an excellent job in this podcast. They each have different takes and great personalities, and their’s is my favorite podcast.
  • Victmyster
    Full of flavor
Always an enjoyable listen with the amazing crew Kat, Nadia and Eric. No matter if I may not be interested in said subject they always seem to draw me in. Unapologetic Opinionated , Funny, and witty
  • Growlans
    Good, but tiring
It’s a great show (good prep and content), but opinions can be heavily biased and sometimes too negative. They often make ‘hot takes’ for the sake of creating controversy… entertaining, but it can get bothersome.
  • NeoSimkin
    Amazing video game pod!
Long time listener here! 💚 You folks are amazing and I look forward to your content every week! I know this has to be hard work but it’s lovely to hear the passion and fun you all have! Just wanted to send good vibes to my favorite podcast. 😁

    Perfectly Balanced Stats
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. You listen to a lot, or a few, gaming podcasts and you wanted to try listening to one that’s a little more specific and not only a “what’s up? Whatcha been playing? News? Emails?” video game podcast. I love those podcasts BUT I’ve fallen for Axe of the Blood God. The hosts have a wonderful camaraderie between them, deep knowledge on the genre and are generally just fun to hear banter. I enjoy the variety of segments show to show but I so very much appreciated the community-led topics that become episodes like the top 25 RPG episode and the post-mortem on that topic later. The pantheon episodes are especially great if you enjoy heady dives into specific games. I came in looking for something specific to scratch an itch, but like some of the best RPGs being excellent games overall, this podcast is just the best. Period.
  • Theobligatorian
For an RPG podcast, they spend a surprising amount of time not talking about RPGs
Kat, Nadia and Eric are great. Like any good conversational driven podcast, each personality differs in their take on various RPGs. Usually the arguments are well reasoned and intriguing. For the most part this is a solid RPG podcast. My only real criticism is that they often spend a great deal of time discussing other subjects besides RPGs or that they drift off topic for a considerable amount of time. It’s not overly annoying but there have been a few subjects where somebody will go off on something that I just have absolutely no interest in. I suppose it can’t be helped, it is a conversational podcast. All in all, a solid listen.
  • Mitchblaw
    Made for Me
This podcast checks all the boxes for me! Amazing discussion? Personable hosts? Knowledgeable guests? It blends all of these aspects into content that creates a community for what I thought was a niche interest. Each episode I know that I have found my people.
  • pH-Unbalanced
    My favorite RPG podcast
The hosts have great chemistry and solid knowledge of the genre. This is a podcast that puts a smile on my face every time I see it pop up on my feed. Also spawned the perfect question to ask when someone starts telling a story: Is this going to be a nook or a pit?
  • Yoda2046
    Best video game podcast ever!
I’m new to the world of podcasts. Not that I’ve never had an interest in podcasts before but I just always spent my time playing video games, watching movies/tv shows when I’m not working. However with my new job I get to put on my headphones while at work so I figured I’d do a deep dive into the world of podcasts. I listened to several others for a few minutes before tuning out and not liking any of the video game podcasts I came across until I saw one that was titled the top 25 RPGs of all time remake 2022 and right away I was hooked and knew I hit the jackpot of all podcasts that dedicated each episode to my favorite genre of video games…RPGs. I’ve been playing video games since about ‘85/‘86 and I’m 41 now and still playing RPGs among other games. I was completely engrossed in your podcast Kat. Listening to you, Nadia and Eric discuss the top RPGs of all time and debate which ones to keep and which ones had to be left off the list was an amazing experience. I instantly connected to all three of you and loved every game that was mentioned in that podcast. It was a trip down memory lane thinking about all those amazing games you all talked about and put on the top 25 of all time list which I have also played. I fell in love with your podcast so much that I’ve probably listened to about 30 of your podcasts this past week and will definitely be supporting you on Patreon. I am a little sad that so far no one has mentioned or talked about skies of Arcadia which granted does have its flaws but I still think it’s a criminally underrated and under appreciated jrpg that I consider to be one of the best JRPGs ever made. It definitely deserves a remaster and/or remake or a sequel which the first game’s director would still love to make. It definitely deserves to be talked about in a future podcast or at least a shout out to the game. I am definitely a huge fan of your podcast and look forward to hearing you, Nadia and Eric continue talking more about the games I love every week and have been playing for many years. Chris

A wonderful and informative RPG podcast
I absolutely love this podcast, so much so, that it’s the only podcast I support financially. The polish is there, the hosts don’t talk over one another, and there is always very informative and interesting discussion going on. Thanks for giving me a little something to look forward to each and every week. Bonus: Kat Bailey is the host. 5/5 would highly recommend.
  • takanari
    Love!!
Found this pod after seeing Kat on the NVC. I came for more ‘Kat-takes.’ I also have a big love for JRPGs and the podcast does a lot explore everything; and the whole panel is very knowledgeable (I don’t agree with all the opinions, but I respect their expertise. BTW, glad to find someone else a big Super Robot Wars fan!

I listen to mostly retro video game podcasts and this one has risen to the top of my list. Kat and Nadia are the perfect duo, and I appreciate Eric’s insight as well. Great listen.

    One of the best!
Love the podcast and the addition of Eric has only increased my admiration for it. It’s a great way to hear about my favorite genre of games and an intriguing way to learn about classic games ive missed along the way.

Great podcast for gamers and RPG lovers alike
Kat runs a tight ship! Excellent podcast exploring the ins and outs of your favorite RPGs and a myriad of other fun topics. Axe of the Blood God has been a staple for many years and Kat, Nadia and Eric continue to entertain their audience! They’ve also branched out into other areas like LOTR and Cowboy Bebop, definitely worthwhile to give this one a shot
  • Biff Stallion
    Maybe More Active Listening?
Hearing Kat admit to tweeting while her co-hosts talk in the Nov. 1st episode is a tacky mar that sours this podcast a bit. Nadia and Kat (and guests) usually have great dialogue, that shows me all sorts of fresh perspectives. I want to continue listening, but I don’t want to hear about hosts ignoring each other.
  • Ekorch
    What a fun show!
I discovered this podcast after hearing Kat and Nadia on various episodes of Retronauts and it has been such a treat! The two of them are insight, fun, and have great chemistry. I also enjoy the variety of segments in each episode, coverage of both old and new games, and guest hosts. Axe of the Blood God has quietly become one of my go-to podcasts!
  • BmanO84
Good RPG podcast, but some strange things.
Love these two when they discuss rpgs, but when they discuss things within the industry, it’s pretty hit n miss. Why are you supporting games by Tencent, like Pokémon Unite, and not giving attention to indies like Wyldermyth? Tencent is gross.
  • Sky_Katchr_Gaming
    Best Podcast Ever!
Finding this podcast has truly been a dream come true. I recently got into RPGs late in life and binged on a lot of the episodes. My favorites are the Console RPG Quest and the 25 Top RPGs of All Time episodes. Every episode is great and Nadia and Kat balance each other well and keep the conversation lively. I’ve learned so much and I hope you do too. Oh they also talk about movies and anime and other cool things. So there is something for everyone.
  • Mig-110
    The Best!
Initially, I picked which episodes to listen to based on topic. Not too long ago, I realized that it doesn’t matter what they’re talking about— Kat and Nadia are always worth listening to.
  • hungeehomer
    Must Listen!
I learn so much about RPGs from past and present! Thank you both for all you do.
