TFG Radio - A Warhammer 40K Podcast

124

Las Vegas Open judges Adam, Danny, and John (along ith non-judge Tom) share their thoughts on the state of Warhammer 40k, judging events, judge issues, wargaming in general, and all kinds of other games based on what they've been playing lately. In each episode, expect plenty of 40k, including what armies they've been playing with and against, strategies, tactics, tournament play and preparation, and general GW talk, alongside other games and the historical miniatures Adam keeps trying to get everyone to play, as well as quick reviews of other games the group have taken a crack at recently and whether or not they're worth time away from the Grim Darkness. Digressions and nonsense are a fact of life at TFG Radio, so sit down, grab some models to paint, and enjoy!

    Horrible production
I listened to a podcast on 07/21/21 , or which ever was newest at that time. I couldn’t understand the host because he had a bad microphone or something. The whole thing sounded poorly and hard to follow !

Good podcast with some audio issues
Good podcast but the fact that sometimes I can’t hear Adam, makes some of the shows unlistenable in the car. And barely listenable through head phones. Good content though, poor Tom.

    Judges, Grognards, and Baby Seal
This is a great podcast if you want to get the perspective of some prevalent 40k Judges from the Independent Tournament Circuit(ITC) and competitive 40k. Adam gives perspective of what it was like to play miniature wargames by oil lamp, Danny corrects all of our english/grammar, Tom occasionally pops in to whisper into the mic like he's in the witness protection program, and Senior LordGodEmperor Master Judge SaltyJohn allows us to bask in his glory, as he walks up to the podium in his custom tailored Army Officer Uniform from his Battle of Little Big Horn reenactment.

    Excellent listen
Yes, truly an excellent listen. Informative for players new and old.

    Great show, but...
Inferior audio mixing makes it very hard to appreciate your great content. Wildly different volume levels for different speakers makes it near impossible to listen to some of the episodes. Should be an easy fix for an otherwise well thought out and quality podcast.

    Uninspired
A podcast where no one seems to like what they are podcasting about.

    It’s a Debbie-Downer
I’ve listened to this podcast for 2-3 years. Due to John’s consistently negative attitude towards GW, I have decided to unsubscribe.

    Fun show
I’m writing a review because you all asked at the end of show. My major lesson is this... never complain to a judge.

John May deny this: Tom is the best everyday Though not at this game.

Too much political snark on a 40k show.
None of them are very good players. None of them know a great deal about tactics or the meta. All they do is crack in jokes, talk about their own RTTs in excruciating, yet uninteresting detail, and the John piped up about politics for no reason.

    Great 40k Podcast
I started listening to TFG Radio in 2015-16 and they have been my go to 40k podcast since. Even though I am not a competitive player, listening to these F$&@%#* guys helps keep me current in 40k meta and excited to collect and play. Keep up the good work everyone.

    Difficult to listen to
Sound quality is very rough, including various hosts at different volumes, and lots of crackles and pops. The thing that put me over the edge was that one of the hosts felt it was a great idea to be perpetually rolling dice into the mic. Nails on a chalkboard.

    Best commute podcast for 40k
Fantastic podcast to listen to during a long drive or hobbying. Always entertaining in their segues and hate for forgeworld. Some valuable insights into all things 40k and wargaming in general. With an eclectic cast that will warm your heart every time you’re done listening.

    Different, but that's ok
Been listening for a while. I enjoy the tournament talk, coupled with the type of banter you would see at your local store. Unfortunately it seems that a couple hosts seem to be on hiatus. However, the current episodes, although not the same, do provide the same insight into the tournament and competitive scene, along with the friendly banter. I hope the original cast comes back but I still enjoy the current crop of episodes.

    Love this cast
I found TFG and loved it immediately. Found myself going back and listening to all the backlogged episodes. Kinda bummed about the recent format change though. The twitch stream episodes with John aren't as good as the stuff with Travis and the Producer.

    Great 40k podcast
Travis and Adam provide just the right amount of sarcasm and seriousness to make this a great and worth while 40k gaming podcast. Expect some great banter with pop culture references and possibly even brief burst of singing. Also, can't forget the "Producer". She is often sleepy/tired which adds another layer of deliriousness which helps to add to the laid back attitude of the podcast. seriously guys and gal. Great job, keep them coming!

I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.
I started listening to this show from the first episode and after eighty episodes of being worn down to give a review I will now. This show is a real attention getter. I play 40k on the East Coast and it is very interesting to see how Travis, Adam and the Producer recount tournaments, list builds and play styles that they see on the West Coast. Between painting tips, thoughts on where Games Workshop is headed and out of control pop cultural references the entire team plays off of each other well and it never feels like two hours have gone by. It's informal, funny and not stuck up as some other 40k podcasts I have subscribed to in the past. I listen to these podcasts when I am on the road and I am grateful for how long they are. Now, gettin' to Texarkana and back in 28 hours, that's no problem while listening to TFG Radio. This podcast really has everything (including warmachine?) Yes. I sat through the warmachine episode. However it works and works well. It shows that the team is very involved in the hobby and can see the game mechanics from other systems and how it is relatable to 40k. Every new episode feels like the welcome mat is out, and you're comin' home. It is honestly exciting to see that fresh new episode hit my phone. This podcast has helped me get over a hobby slump and I encourage anyone that is looking for a genuinely funny and smart 40k podcast to listen to this one. Well, ya see, I'm not saying that I've been everywhere and I've done everything or listened to every podcast. But I do know it's a pretty amazing planet we live on here, and a man would have to be some kind of fool to think this isn’t a good one THIS universe.

Why aren't you listening to this?!
One of the best wargaming podcasts that I listen to, I would recommend it to anyone interested in the hobby. It's impossible to listen to this podcast and not smile.

    Great listen
Hey guys, Been playing 40k for over a year now, and have been listening to TFG Radio since I started. Aside from all the tangents, this is a VERY informational and insightful Podcast. They are both judges of the game we both love and hate (40k, especially when the dice decide to betray you...) and played many other tabletop games. They have a long experience set involving the evolution of the tabletops as well. If you don't like the information they have, then the tangents are hilarious. Maybe I grew up in their generation, but most of the reference you should be able to get as well. In short: Smart, Witty, Fun, and Great. It's a good source for 40k, warhammer, War Machine and other games.

FYI, I'm one of your multiple Nebraska listeners. We aren't many, but we do listen. That being said, we are pretty split regarding the GMO debate in the state. I personally am pro GMO, but totally understand the other side's concerns. Also, high fructose corn syrup IS far too abundant. Enjoyable show. Keep it up!

    Text Based Review
Entertaining and insightful commentary on mostly 40k
  • Stippy7
    Seriously not serious podcast
Text based review about a group of individuals who enjoy wargaming and often talk way too much about a variety of topics. Many topics not of the wargaming sort, but certainly related. Sort of. Sometimes.

    Good stuff
Podcast needs to be higher up in 40k rankings. Only suggestion I have is to maybe have subject matter guests on occasion to discuss focus topics. Can lend more perspectives than your enclave's opinions. Still, you're my favorite 40k podcast right now. Thanks!

Nice to hear a local (So. Calif.) view on the WH40k scene. Good chemistry between the 3 hosts. When I get my army fully painted, I'm going to go down to their store and learn to play.

    Fantastic Podcast
I was looking for a go-to 40k podcast after the 11th Co. shut down and stumbled across TFG. Travis, Adam, and The Producer are insightful and informative, and they're a ton of fun to listen to. Give it a shot!

    It's ok..
The podcast is ok in most respects, it does have some areas that it could improve. Hence the 3 star. It seems like a fun group, and that's ok, but the "producer" laughs at everything, and I mean everything her husband says. Which would be fine, but she is so loud and shrill, you will be constantly annoyed having to turn down the volume, only to have to turn it back up because the Adam tends to whisper. Travis seems like the big nerd friend you had in high school but never grew up, constantly tossing out movie quotes and obscure references. He is knowledgable tho and has decent opinions on the games but he tends to get off track quickly, dragging the show along. They also repay themselves quite a lot. If they stayed on track they could probably get the podcasts down to less than 2 hours. But it goes off the rails quickly. Would get a 5 star if it was under 2 hours, and they fixed the issues with laughing loudly directly into the mic. It really is the most annoying thing ever.

    TFG’s TFF (That F***ing Fan)
Great podcast, quite amazing and entertaining (and of course I’ll tell you guys why). I started listening on 18MAR2016 and just finished episode 42 (using Podcast Addict app). Basically binge listening like watching NCIS on netflix. Listening to these guys…and gal (allegedly), makes you feel like you are hanging out with them and are a part of their gaming group. The cast is the perfect threesome (and no I don’t know what they do behind the mic). You have Adam the veteran gamer with the “Good Job” who buys anything shiny and is usually stuff the average gamer can’t afford or find the time to do. I love getting to here about all the different FW and GW models he purchases and plays with. Next is the Producer, gamer of unknown origin and experience who broke into this podcast scene through early side conversations and peanut gallery comments that were quite insightful. She keeps the group focused but also brings the salt and rage especially when Salty John is not in house. Finally is Travis who is basically the learned wise one who centers the team and guides his pupils. Travis has great insight into GW, the hobby, and the intimate social construct that is table top gaming. As for the interaction on the show, I would have to say the way Travis and the Producer interact is like the Tommy from the movie Sandlot. Travis quotes something and the Producer repeats and echoes it (queue rage from Producer). Adam also drives the comedy especially with the devil water bit (by the way I tried microwaving some water for tea the other day and it tasted awful, kinda a believer now). Something else TFG has done is change my perspective of GW and the gaming industry. I was getting pretty salty at GW and the direction 40K was heading but after listening to TFG radio I now see that GW is actually pretty awesome and they are guiding 40K in a great direction (I agree with the Producer’s conspiracy theory that at GW HQ they are more plugged in and knowing of the market and how to control us gamers than anyone realizes) Anyway I hope you guys stay on the air and keep doing great things. I will continue to be an avid fan. -Jim B.
