Reveal’s investigations will inspire, infuriate and inform you. Host Al Letson and an award-winning team of reporters deliver gripping stories about caregivers, advocates for the unhoused, immigrant families, warehouse workers and formerly incarcerated people, fighting to hold the powerful accountable. The New Yorker described Reveal as “a knockout … a pleasure to listen to, even as we seethe.” A winner of multiple Peabody, duPont, Emmy and Murrow awards, Reveal is produced by the nation’s first investigative journalism nonprofit, The Center for Investigative Reporting, and PRX. From unearthing exploitative working conditions to exposing the nation’s racial disparities, there’s always more to the story. Learn more at revealnews.org/learn.

    Fantastic
Great host, great subjects, superbly told.

Does the music have to be so loud?
The subjects are extremely sensitive and important, the reporting impeccable but does the music have to be so loud that it drowns the text and distracts from it? For those of us with baby boomers ears, it is intolerable. I love music, but, please!

Possibly the best investigative journalism in the US. Unflinching and rigorous research on vital and consequential issues that are not always covered by the mass media, but have tremendous impact on the people involved and indication of the larger society. Can’t praise enough for the important and no doubt hard work of the team behind every story!

Didn’t Know I was looking for this

    The Plague in the Shadows
Wow! This episode was excellent! My senior thesis for undergraduate studies was on Chicanas/Latinas with HIV. I can recall reviewing medical journal articles on Latinos and seeing many gross generalizations & also the absence of information on women, much less Latinas. Thank you for covering this story! It was very powerful!

Not that current-Lots of Repeats since merge
There are lots of repeats & broadcasts of other shows’ repeats since the merge with Mother Jones was announced. I think soon it won’t be around. Pity-it had been amazing.

    Cool show
Well done! No one cares about the credits. Idk why you spend like 2 minutes rehearsing everyone involved in the production.

    Kudos to compelling investigative journalism.
Mississippi Goddam! Mesmerized by your thorough reporting on Reveal. Add to that the deep dive into another tragic loss of Billey Joe’s young life, bright future and how his family is robbed of redemption. My heart broke with their hearts @ the description of the death scene and how police prevented and ordered that they not cross the tape line to identify their son’s body. Goddam all those in charge that day. Eagerly awaiting more episodes. Thank you for opening our eyes and hearts.

    Not great
Interesting topics, just have to see thru the bias. Not a go-to podcast for that reason. I plan to unfollow.

    Great Podcast
I always enjoy these stories and the highlight such important issues. Great journalism that gets the full story and asks the listener to draw their own conclusions.

    Haunting and Provocative
You continuously stretch my thinking by bringing facts to light. You fill the gaps with general reporting. Please continue with your efforts. I appreciate all you do.

    Repeat the same thing
Listening to an episode, and they are playing recordings are are easy to understand, but yet the reporter/narrator repeats the exact same line over and over. If he doesn’t have anything to add, he shouldn’t be inturupting. Also, the ep is discussing FBI trying to convince BLM protestors to assassinate a government official, but censors cussing, and the narrator apologizes. If you are willing to play people talk about murder, then grow up and let people hear the cuss words.

    Solid gold investigative journalism
Reveal and host Al Letson should receive highest honors for engaging, informed investigative journalism that is doing a major public service. For anyone interested in about going deep on the most important issues of our time—racial justice and freedom struggles, climate change, mass surveillance and tech monopoly, the capture of government by capital—listen to this podcast! And thank you, Al Letson!

I’m a seventh generation Mississippian…this series was incredible!! It’s on point in its discussion of how many white Mississippians approach race- I’m white and have had too many 🤯 conversations with family members who refuse to acknowledge the influence the past has on the present. I hope that someday this case is reopened, and that the Johnson family and Letson someday find closure, as well as the truth of what happened to Billey Joe Johnson.

    So well done and informative!

    Excellent.
This is one of the very best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. While the journalism is thorough and penetrating, it is also incredibly thoughtful. One example: The use of different incidents of racism unrelated to the death of Billy Joe Johnson at the start of each episode is very powerful; it creates important context, and leads the reader to understand Billy Joe’s story in a way that they simply wouldn’t otherwise. Highly recommended.

Relevant always, and on such varied topics.
Thank you for digging so deeply into so many important yet not-widely-known issues. A must podcast for anyone alive today.

    Very interesting topics
What I like about this show is how many new to me things I learn about. The show has good research and is very informative. The topics are not the overdone topics you see elsewhere.

    Thrilled
I am listening to Reveals recounting of the story of the release of the pentagon papers. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, the story is so exciting. I just keep saying wow! under my breath. BTW, this isn’t the first time a story on Reveal has affected me this.

This 7-part series on the death of Billey Joe Johnson in 2008 is so very powerful. Just an amazing piece of investigative journalism. Al Letson and his partner Jonathan Jones manage to probe every detail related to the investigation of this young man’s death and show that the investigation was flawed. But the podcast is so much more than that. They place the tragedy in the context of Mississippi history and culture, interspersing many stories of violence against other African Americans. Besides this exhaustive exploration of Billey Joe Johnson’s death, the two reporters share a bit of their relationship as they responded differently to the full oppressive weight of our racist past and present. The series made me think about a similar unexplained “suicide” of a classmate of mine inside a local jail in 1969 in Victoria, Texas. And the awful truth is that there are so many stories like this one, all submerged in our untold history. Al Letson managed to both accomplish an amazing feat of painstaking journalism while also telling us about his own lived experience of racism and the rage he feels about that experience. It is no small feat to be able to do both those things in a single creative piece. Thank you so much, Al and JJ, for this great work.

    I’m furious
You know a podcast is phenomenal when they find the stories that make you furious. Revealing the truth is what they do and they do it in a way that gets you to do something.
  • Funra66
    Always fascinating
I’ve loved this podcast for years but the recent coverage of Latin American issues has really taken it to another level. English speaking audiences interested in what’s happening in Mexico or Central America should check out the corresponding episodes. Excellent work Reveal team and correspondents.
