Sam Anderson is a Masterful storyteller w an engaging voice. Walnut is probably the sweetest story I’ve ever heard about animals. Make more about a beloved dog please.

    Perfection, but for one thing...
Jokey but serious, and always a delight to listen to. Sam Anderson is an amazing animal person. Season 2? It’s going on my wishlist. However, what about turtles? Otters? Koalas? I NEED MORE ANIMALS!

The beauty of human animal connection
Please make so many more seasons of this. Was drawn in by the Walnut multimedia content on NYT - one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read. I listened to all episodes with my animal loving 7 year old and we’ve loved every one.

    Beautiful Reprieve
Sam’s voice is at once gentle and wry, and his celebration of animals is tonic. He puts back the nature in human nature as he explores the strange otherness of our animal relations, and our bonds. Please let there be a second season.

    Best podcast ever
This show and this host are a precious find! I have never laughed and cried more in a shorter period of time and we are talking about a suppressed introvert here The mix of facts and vulnerable storytelling is fabulous. I am not Sam Anderson mother btw but she must be proud. I am now listening to Boomtown and highly recommend. Thank you for this gem

    I needed this
I heard it on The Daily (which i also love.) It’s heartwarming, thought provoking and exactly what I needed to remind me there is still good in the world. Let’s go season two!

    Please make more episodes!
I absolutely love this podcast I love how Sam approaches not only each animal, but his storytelling as well. I want to hear about more of his adventures with other unique animals! Truly refreshing media in this troubled time in which we live. Thank you so much to Sam and to the New York Times and to all involved in producing this unique podcast.

    A reprieve from depressing news
I’ve never written a review for a podcast, but this podcast sparks so much joy. Thank you for making this by following your heart.

A rollercoaster of emotions and exceptional storytelling
I have been enjoying every episode of Animal. Sometimes chaotic, raw, funny, heartwarming, funny, heart-aching, and did I mention funny? And Sam brings it all together through some of the best storytelling I’ve ever heard. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Thank you Sam (and all the others who thought this was a good idea for a sad and confusing time in history). I listened on accident because normally these particular animals hold no interest for me and I wanted the news. That is certainly not true anymore. I found myself captivated by Sam’s interaction with these extraordinary creatures, and wanting to travel to places I’ve had no desire to see before. He clearly has the perfect blend of humility, sense of humor and heart for nature to bring out the curiosity buried in us. I’m jealous of those who get to listen for the first time. Thank you, Colleen Morgans

    Fantastic Storytelling!
Sam is such a genius storyteller. Great voice, tempo, mix of narrating and sound bites. Everything you want in a podcast. PLUS it’s about animals. Every animal lover needs to listen because what he talks about is so relatable. The mystery, the inexplainable love, the connection we have with animals. He covers it all. I thoroughly enjoyed listening and I hope he can make a Season 2 one day.

    Love this podcast
Stumbled on this when looking up The Daily. It’s really refreshing and not so heavy and disturbing like all the murder shows I listen to :) I hope there will be more!

    Not for me
I found this show so frustrating. It was sold as being about animals but it’s really about this guy’s pedestrian philosophies. Then we get to the wolf episode and I’m excited about learning about an apparently extinct wolf from Japan, but we spend the whole time about this driver, his pet chihuahua and father-in-law.

Best podcast in the whole world
I am do in love with this podcast. The way Sam connects animals and their stories to his relationships with his family and himself is just beautiful.

    We need more!
This is one of the most wholesome yet intriguing and entertaining podcast I’ve heard in a long time. The story telling is so refreshing—I couldn’t stop listening and I was so sad when the last episode was over! Please tell us there will be another season!

    Podcast I didn’t know I needed
I randomly fell across these episodes, and with little interest in animals besides my dog, instantly was captivated by the story telling in each episode. There is something so warm and friendly and informative about each story within each episode that is addictive and hard to not listen. Thank you so much for this series. I highly recommend if you’re looking for something sweet light hearted and informative

    Beautiful
I absolutely love this series. I've been listening every Sunday when it's released by The Daily podcast and I am going to be so sad when it's over. As an animal lover, I can relate to Sam and his pure joy and wonder at the animal world.
  • lobo.ama.zorro
    Excellent storytelling
This has been an absolute pleasure to listen too. Thank you!!

    Animal is beautiful
Sam is a gifted storyteller and he loves the animal world with a passion. In a world where everything is changing with the speed to light, he brings a keen appreciation and skill to conveying the importance of man’s relationship with each distinctive species ….all of us struggling to survive. I can’t pick one favorite…they are all perfect, but start with the adventure…human and animals…that is Mango and Walnut. You’re going to want all the rest.

Beautiful, But Not For The Overly-Tender-Hearted
This podcast is full of beautiful stories from wildly talented storytellers. You will laugh, learn, and lean in to parts of nature you have not previously thought about. On the flip side, many of the stories are such painful, gut-wrenching reminders of how humans are destroying the earth. If you’re like me, you’ll be unable to stop listening and eager to keep learning, but maybe doing it all through tears.

    He’s in my head!
I cry every episode! Sam’s appreciation for animals is as strong as mine. I love how he describes why each animal is special and how he relates to them. We see them the same and I can’t get enough of this podcast!

The only thing I can’t stand with this podcast
The only thing I can't stand with this podcast is that there are only 6 episodes! Give me more! Give me more of Sam’s beautiful and heartwarming journey with animals! Pleaaaaaaaaaase

Animal is so human and tender and humane
Without knowing it, I must have been yearning for something uplifting and human amidst all the ravaging news of the day. Sam Anderson’s Animal was just the thing. I now know that there’s such a thing as binge listening because I devoured this series in a very short amount of time. What I love about Sam’s reporting is that he finds resonance in his personal life. A boyhood trip with his father, the experience of letting his daughter go off to college— they somehow relate to his animal adventures and make them more powerful, more humane. Listening to this podcast makes me wonder: how many people out there are a little bit in love with Sam Anderson now?
