Stolen Hearts

True Crime #121

Sergeant Jill Evans is a small town cop in Wales with an impressive record in her job, and a less than impressive record in her love life. After three engagements, two divorces and one affair, she’s beginning to worry that love is only true in fairy tales. That is until she meets: Dean. He’s a wealthy beauty entrepreneur with his own range of toiletries.

Girl meets boy. Boy meets girl. They kiss and fall in love. Roll credits.

But that would be boring, wouldn’t it? Instead, this is a love story like no other. It’s all going so well for Jill and Dean, until Halloween night, when Dean disappears. And Sgt. Jill is left to pick up the pieces.

From Wondery and Novel, comes a new series. Hosted by Kerry Godliman.

    Turn up the volume
I enjoyed this podcast very much except for one thing: it was difficult to hear most of the male voices, including Dean, the main character. PLEASE, in the future, coach your subjects to project their voices, at least a little. My hearing is fine, but I had to keep turning the volume up when male characters spoke (mumbled).

Nope. Done w wondery. Subscription needed
Don’t bother if you don’t have a wondery subscription. You can only listen to the first episode. That’s too bad, as this story is interesting. But no, I’m not gonna subscribe. Yall will bleed us listeners dry. How many channels do we have to subscribe to.

    Love it!
Huge fan of Kerry Godliman she makes everything funny and interesting. I hope she narrates more podcasts.

    Done with Wondrey
Doesn’t matter what we rate the show or if it’s good or bad, by removing all but the first episodes to force people to pay for their stupid Wondrey , people will not even give new shows a chance. Good luck

    Stolen Hearts
I LOVED this podcast. It was narrated in a fun way. I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts and I will say that this has been my favorite so far.

    Cops and robbers
It was a fun podcast, different than most crime podcasts we’ve listened to. I enjoyed the explaining at the beginning of each episode for the people in the US. Thanks for telling this story

    That woman needs help
She is incredibly self absorbed and selfish. She should not have children in her care. She’s nuts. I feel bad for the kids.

    Loved it
I so enjoyed the writing, production, and overall story telling in this podcast. So much fun but also very captivating. Well done.

So slow. So predictable. Gave up.
This is Dateline w bad accents. A really really dumb cop falls for a conman criminal. What possibly could go wrong?

More podcasts w/ Kerry Godliman pls! 😃
I really enjoyed this podcast. I felt like the hosting choice of Kerry Godliman was an excellent one as well as the decision to tell this from Jill’s POV. It’s a great true crime love story that kept me listening! More podcasts with Kerry Godliman as host please!

    Engrossing Story
Wonderful narration! This story pulls you in and keeps the listener enthralled in each episode.

    “Gentle” true crime…
…to the extent that a story with crime can be. The gruesomeness is not where you expect it to be.

    Please give us more Kerry!
While the story was engaging and infuriating, honestly the production of this podcast alone is 5 stars. I loved Kerry's narration intercut with the "characters" themselves speaking. The tone was superb throughout. I would love to listen to future tales, crime or non-crime related (lets avoid murders though please), because this 360 degree view of the situation is wonderful. Truly truly excellent.

    Binge Worthy!
Great story! FRFR! I listened to all episodes in one sitting. I couldn’t stop listening!! We all love the bad boy.. but when the fun is over … it’s hard! As the significant other you are treated like a criminal. I wasn’t an officer but I was a teacher. … He did 17 years and I’m traumatized as if I was in prison… I guess that’s the goal! Damn….. Anyways great journalism!!! Thanks!

Good story- but tone down the music and sound effects
Love the story. Love the narrator and writing. The music and sound effects are very distracting and too loud. Particularly the distorted voice effects, which make it very hard to understand what’s being said. The story is plenty good enough to keep the listener engaged. No need for all the extra stuff!

    Love it!
I think this is one of the best podcast I have heard I really did get into the story and I actually give you 10 stars….

    A story with no arc
I kept waiting for some kind of turn in the story, which would not have been hard for the story tellers to create - cast some doubt on his guilt or make us wonder whether Jill involved. Instead it was all very straight forward and boring.

    WOW
A very engrossing and riveting podcast!

    Stolen everything.
This was a great story. I binged it today while making cookies and listening to the rain. I thought the story was well conveyed. I know of heartache and found myself not pulling for their love to survive but that she could really heal her heart enough to move on. Proud of how she survived and for Frankie she would do it again. The heart wants what the heart wants. Thank you.

    Don’t waste your time
I was fully in on episodes 1-5! Loved it. But the really stupid and boring Disney ending was just too much for me. Gag. Ruined the whole thing.

    Such a great show!

Looking for love in all the wrong men!
Love Jill!! She is smart, witty and obviously a really good mom! Just looking for a man that blows her skirt up! Couldn't wait for the next episode. Had to go to the web to see what she was doing now. Obviously well! I know that you have to go through the bad to get to the good one!

    Great Narrator!
Love Kerry! Great storytelling and cute little turn of phrases and commentary about relationships.

    Meh
I love Wondery podcasts. The voices and pacing and info are great. But we should not be celebrating a woman continuing to follow a criminal and feel any sort of compassion for her predicament. Got what she signed up for.

    Great podcast!
Loved it, can’t wait for next one. Well done!!

    You Get What You Deserve
Should you feel sorry for criminals, their complicit family members, and the police officer girlfriend? No. This podcast portrays itself as the most incredible twist-filled romance story, but it’s really less-than-interesting, dull, and full of self-important people who have made terrible life decisions.
  • Goodfun81
    Fun
Good twist for a true crime podcast.
  • ClimaxCake
    Well put together!
Loved listening from beginning to end. The way they focus on the story of emotions throughout makes this so fun and compelling to listen to. 10/10

    Is Dean a sociopath?
This show was awesome. Podcasts are always better when British accents are involved. I’m hoping we can get a follow up episode where a psychologist discusses whether Dean is a diagnosable sociopath. Seems like he is just pretending to have actual feelings. Such an interesting bloke. Thanks for the great show!

    First review ever
I seriously sat through that? What was the twist/turn that was promised. Is it bazaar a police officer falls for a robber? Sure. I could have gotten that out of the article Jill sold to the papers in, what?, 4 minutes? Six episodes of my life I’ll never get back. 4.5 stars?? Really?
  • Peace love and Kris
    Fun listen!
This is very well made and the narrator is great, inserting humor everywhere she can. She makes parts that could be mundane fun and cheeky. The only issue for me was Dean’s voice. It’s very low and if you are American, the accent combined with his quiet, rasp of a voice makes for many playbacks. I hope for a season 2!
  • GCR64
    Well done
Jill is stupid, but the story is interesting.
  • Phookahorse
    Good but a little long
As many podcasts, this gets a lot redundant after the fourth episode.
  • Able5
    What is this on about?
45mins in and I still have no clue what this show is about. This is the most cutesy start to a true crime podcast I’ve ever encountered. Get to the point already!
  • 12345@miniaussiesrock
    Well done!
Every episode was 5 stars. Great story, well presented!
  • Noah B 04
    Interesting
Once you get over how incredibly stupid Jill is, the story hopefully will be a cautionary tale for other women? Good overall.
  • hazelbnr
    A real life ending 🙏
I enjoyed listening. The complaining reviews are most probably from impatient ppl who do not understand the art of storytelling. Ty, to all involved in this creative process.
  • kayferguson13
    Decent but….
I’m incredulous the host desperately tried to make Jill a sympathetic damsel in distress. HA! Jill was beyond dumb to me. While still a cop she tells her story to the paper & all is fine. BUT THEN SHE SELLS HER STORY TO A MAGAZINE?! She was one of the dumbest cops on earth & I cheered when she was fired. She wasn’t thinking about her two kids or the one on the way. How did her girls feel knowing she pushed them aside - that bit wasn’t in the podcast. She can’t blame anything on Dean - NOTHING. This wasn’t the kind of story I was expecting. She blindly followed a man she didn’t know then blamed HIM for ruining her life & career. Jill didn’t have good sense nor common sense. Jill is still hung up on him, this story was pathetic. The host irked me more than a little bit with her ‘oh, poor Jill wouldn’t be in this situation if it weren’t for Dean.’ Buy Jill some self-esteem.

    Yes!
This was a great podcast! I need another one 😁

    First episode is interesting…
But then it all just drags out from there. Not sure why this wasn’t an episode on a different podcast. Definitely didn’t need its own series.

    How to listen
It says the podcast is available to everyone but then it ask you to subscribe. Which is it?
  • Bryn Bird
    Not really engaging story
I liked it. I enjoyed the story but it was 6 episodes and could have been 3. I kept waiting for the big reveal and there isn’t really a twist or larger narrative to go longer. Would have been interesting hearing from more people involved.
  • SheremaB
    Great podcast!
Please do more. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and more importantly how it was produced. Your accents and humor were elements I really enjoyed too. Great job!!!
  • Ricky R Richard
    A bit dull
In the first episode you’re just listening to the dating life of someone you’ve never heard of with no idea why this is a podcast. Afterwards it goes somewhere but it’s not really interesting enough for six episodes. The twist was a lot less interesting than I was expecting. There’s a lot of mystery in the description which unfortunately is hiding a story with less punch than your average podcast.
  • Gaithersburger
    Over produced and overly sympathetic
Sorry, but Jill’s naïveté was infuriating and not challenged enough by the interviews. And giving the conman the last word—ugh. Why?
