dawnlovesmakeupExcellentI enjoyed listening to the discussions and learned a lot. I feel like I’ve come away with a willingness to see historical figures as complex people and to remember the time that they lived is different than today. I’ve had that thought before - to not be so quick to cancel history - but hadn’t been able to articulate it. Thank you Douglas Murray and experts for a thought provoking, educational series of discussions. I will be reading some of the books mentioned on the show.

hozhedExcellent!! Well done!Would LOVE if more episodes were made. Love this podcast. Listened several times and learn more each time I do.
-
JT1MacWell done. Complete. Thoughtful, with a bit of controversy!I thoroughly enjoyed each episode. Learned something new. Had some ideas reinforced. I’d like more.
-
josh.dawsFascinating discussionsLoved the topics on Uncancelled History. I spent my lunch breaks and traveling time listening; it was time well spent. We’ll need another 10 episodes by the Spring of 2024.

longcashApologist?I haven’t completed the whole series yet, but I find apologist to be disingenuous.

Houston HolidaySuch an interesting and informative series.Murray never disappoints.
-
czmccarthyWorth archiving and revisiting, like timeless booksIf you are unsure what you will get from this series, listen to Murray’s conclusion episode for all the inspiration you will need. I have already begun to revisit episodes. So much insight and wisdom. Thank you, Mr. Murray.

EricHortknBreathe of Fresh AirIt is nice to hear history told from facts with the good and bad and not just from a political agenda based on feelings and emotions. Hope another season is released.

Yay!😋😜😛😝Great Real HistoryI’m so glad you started this endeavor. I have been looking for a good “non-woke” history podcast for a long while. Hope you are planning a second season. Looking forward to it.

selectivedataThank the MakerEnjoyed your books. Consume all content I can get. Thank you for honesty, clarity, truthfulness, objectivity, and a willingness to consider any side. You rock!
-
SuseBobExcellent SeriesMr Murray did a great job letting his guests share their knowledge and expertise in all interviews. Hope he will consider 2.0 version of this idea as the world is starving for other opinions regarding cancellation of history’s greatest heros. Loved the Lee episode
-
huMAN4217492Common SenseEveryone needs to listen to this without bias and in a critical way. This is why history is important and doing your own research is important. This was a much needed podcast and we need more of it in these trying times we currently live in.
-
Janney USAPlease continueLoved this series and so disappointed to see it end. Douglas Murray has a soothing speaking voice and he actually listens to his guests! I bought Andrew Ferguson’s book after listening to the podcast on Lincoln.
-
HhhhhssfescYour podcast is garbageThere is absolutely no defending colonialism for the way they brutalized their subjects. Shame on your propaganda
-
BobR 62Hope there is more to come.It would be a shame to stop here. Someone must - MUST - continue to put the marker down for a clear-eyed, fact based view of history free of the ideological tug of war between current day political partisans.
-
steph_54Whitewashed historyI was incredibly interested until the guest started defending statues of Robert E Lee in the first episode. I’m happy to listen to different perspectives, but this was beyond a difference of opinion. Unfortunately, the whitewashed point of view caused me to question any information being alleged in the episode, and now I won’t be continuing the series. Awful.

McAbalosMore, more, more, please!!!Fantastic guests, topics, questions, and the best host accent in podcasting!
-
Butterscots26Yikes!Should be named Revisionist History.
-
jag1152Wow!A much needed critical view of historical figures who have been scorned for being racist, etc. I’ve learned these men were progressive in the development of our young country at that time. Thank you for this!

JKW TEACHERFantastic series ‼️So enjoyed this series! Topics and presentations were well chosen and informative without being lectured‼️ I’m sharing with everyone I know ‼️

2000cyberzThoughtful Assessment of HistoryDouglas Murray is one of the leading intellectuals of our day. His depth of knowledge and fearless defense of western values make him the most effective advocate against Woke indoctrination today. If others in academia were as courageous as Douglas, we wouldn’t be watching the degeneration of our society. The scholars that have been interviewed on this podcast offer informed views on the complex individuals that have shaped our history. Would that our universities offered such open perspectives. If they did, students would learn from the past .

MJH9409Biased and InnacurateLook no further than the episode on George Washington’s Closest Slave episode. A level of benevolence extended to the founding farthest that frankly is just inaccurate and thoroughly imagined.
-
lrhhrlTrying too hardGeorge Washington and Abraham Lincoln have not been cancelled. I like Murray but he is trying too hard to make some absurd points about cancel culture. These guys still have monuments and are largely beloved. Perhaps there are some detractors and some school districts that have considered name changes but my public school district (in a blue part of PA) still has both names on buildings. If he wants to give a history lesson on these great presidents then ok. But his “should they stay cancelled?” premise is stupid.

museman76Great show!Douglas continues to push back against the left wing narrative destroying western civilization. Listened to the first two episodes and am not surprised by the excellent content. Please share!
-
XyghhkkTop notchI stumbled across this podcast looking for a good history listen and I was excited to find something that didn’t have a left-leaning lens. The episode were great, and episode 8 required me to write this review. The guest and discussion from episode 8 “The Classics” was just phenomenal. He was so insightful and easy to follow, I found myself nodding along and whispering “brilliant” several times on my long walk. I recommend everyone listen to this podcast and recall why we study history.

bittybumpPerhaps consider your interviewees more carefully…Podcasts are generally excellent, both illuminating and useful as a counterpoint to the insipid shallowness and rigidity of the “woke crowd…my one caveat is be prepared for some zany interviewees. Case in point was the most recent attempted explication of the Age of Exploration, where listeners were subjected to Felipe Fernandez-Armesto, apparently someone handicapped by his inability to complete a sentence, let alone a cogent thought without sustained bursts of cringe-inducing laughter; one is forced to wonder what oddities of perspective one must possessed of to find historical rendition so hilarious; the man may be a credible scholar, but should definitely be confined to the written word, not the verbal narrative mode…Additionally, to the American ear, his British accent was so pronounced as to be at once indecipherable (at times) and a caricature of English pomposity…if a participant in a Monty Python skit, he’d be right at home…had the impression as the interview progressed that Mr. Murray was definitely second-guessing his decision to subject his listening audience to this very odd historian…

gulagdharmaMore Douglas!Thank you Douglas for having these crucial conversations and making them available to us in these strange times.

ZawferThe perfect moment for truth-telling about American historyAnything Douglas Murray puts his name to interests me. So far I’ve particularly enjoyed the episodes on Robert E. Lee and Thomas Jefferson, about whom I learned a lot. The humanization of Lee was also very poignant. The episode about Lincoln was a bit lacking: not as in-depth as the other two, but still worthwhile. My least favorite so far was the episode on Colonialism. I had the impression that Murray was sometimes appalled or at least skeptical about Gilley’s views, but decided not to be adversarial. This is a shame, because I would have liked Murray’s input. Does Gilley really believe that one group of people would choose to be “governed by” another group, or that the world could use some well-executed colonialism right about now? Murray was more interactive in the other episodes, which made them more interesting, because he is so knowledgeable and articulate. The current craze of erasing the achievements of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, and Robert E. Lee too, for that matter, causes me great despair. I applaud the British Mr. Murray for being more patriotic and taking more interest in American history than the average American.

Pho. Bolo. H.Nuance put back in history but be careful.Given the illiberal mentality of academia raging today,( professors silenced, death threats given on Twitter and anti West group think enforced),it is great to have a history podcast that pushes back. My only concern is that the pushback becomes overly reactionary and doesn’t just trade left wing historical ideology for right wing historical ideology. Please stay in the nuanced center!
-
von fangeA wonderful new history podcastI am really enjoying this series! Along with Dan Carlin and The Bowery Boys, this is one of my favorite history podcasts. There are so many fascinating eras/people to cover… I can’t wait to see where this goes! Please keep podcasting!
-
BenStPaulThank youWhat an intelligent and interesting show. A breath of fresh air. A man from Britain is helping shed light on the beautiful and compelling history of our country, which is still being written.
-
89howkevRefreshingly ObjectiveBravo. The host and guests embrace the complexity of their subjects, rejecting the myopic lecture tone of most contemporary shows. The host doesn’t tell you what to think. He presents multiple perspectives; it forces me think and challenge my views. It’s refreshing to be trusted with information. Too many history podcasts ignore context or pitch their ideas as truth.
-
SonofDesantisBasicsThe review that refers to Douglas hitting these slow pitch culture war issues out of the park is correct. But this is also about not opting for the niche take and not stretching to find some revisionist history angle when the true heroes are the ones we already know about.
-
VickiZ531Thoughtful, insightfulThoughtful and insightful conversations about history and historical figures. A pleasure.
-
kjcgaWell done. It’s amazing how much information is packed into these podcasts. You might think you know a bit about the subject, but there’s so much more to learn. These podcast whet your appetite for a deeper dive.
-
BoSawxFanThank You Douglas MurrayDouglas Murray is the most important commentator, author, thinker etc in the world about Western Civilization. His books are must reads. He has the courage to say publicly what many of us know to be 100% true but subject you to ridicule by the chattering woke crowd in academia and the media. He is an absolute treasure and I’m so glad he is doing this fantastic podcast.
-
Pete HanksDouglas in top form as usualIn the absence of other public figures willing to step up and hit these slow pitch culture war issues over the fence, Douglas takes the task upon himself. As per usual, he is more than equal to the task.
-
Connor_McKeonFrom the shadowsDouglas and his guests shine a light on characters that have been in the shadows for years. They do not gloss over their flaws or diminish them, but use their flaws to show historical development.
-
catiiebabyy7Anything Douglas Murray does is worth reading or listening toDouglas Murray is such a clear headed thinker - and his wit and speaking voice are also great draws.
-
55WillBGThe colonialism episode starts off wrong on the factsThe prof interviewed wrongly states that European colonizers did not think of other people as sub-human. There is a huge literature and history of French, Belgian, and British colonial leaders and thinkers saying specifically that their colonial subjects were inferior, this usually before one of the massacres or forced famines.
-
dandydooboyUnadulterated historyDouglas is one the clearest thinkers and speakers of our times. His interviews with knowledgeable historians is very timely and is a needed antidote to our current non factual zeitgeist.
-
AlaninBmrtnFacts, and credible analysisA very good presentation of historical facts and Professor Gilley’s resulting analysis is credible. I’m not in Academia, so it’s hard to judge Gilley’s criticism, but I’m hearing some very broad generalizations along with disturbing anecdotes regarding opinions on academic freedom of expression.
-
chazlindholmGreat insightI appreciate the common sense and explanations. Very well done.
-
abanegas71Rounded HistoryFinally a balanced voice to explain what a crusade of politically correctness is trying to overlook from the very rich history of the United States
-
REstes13HistoryLoved the concise and unbiased review of a “controversial” figure. Interesting to hear an expert answer well-formed questions!
