Corinna and the King is the unbelievable true story of a love affair that brought the Spanish royal family to its knees. When Corinna, a worldly and well-connected businesswoman, fell in love with Juan Carlos I, the king of Spain, he seemed too big to fail. Their secret romance stretched across continents, but its unraveling would open a window into a dangerous world of greed, corruption, and crime. Vast pools of hidden wealth; international espionage and conspiracy; scandal, elephant hunting, and unstoppable lust… all tracing back to one of the most secretive royalties in the world. Amazing!
This was an unbelievable, but true story! It was put together so well that I couldn’t wait to hear more. The narration was great—the voice cadence was almost reminiscent of Desperate Housewives (c’mon who didn’t love Mary Alice’s voice). And, for the ignorant previous reviewers that tore down the host’s pronunciation of Spanish words like she was trying to hard, didn’t bother to learn that she is a Spanish speaker and brought a lot of authenticity to the narration. Excellent podcast, I just wish there were more episodes. Lol

    Awful narrator
I really wanted to listen to the story, but I could not make it past the second episode due to the narrator. The inflection and emphasis on different words is incredibly annoying.

    The story is riveting!
I was completely fascinated by the story. I had a problem with the narration however. The narrator is American, but for some bizarre reason attempted to over pronounce Spanish names ridiculously. “Juan Carlos” became”Ahn Garlos” or worse. I frequently had to rewind to figure out what she was saying because it became confusing. It’s like going to a restaurant with someone who when they order a French wine hilariously and dramatically over pronounce the name with a fake French accent.

    Doesn’t feel real…
The story of Corinna and Juan Carlos feels like a fantasy novel from start to finish. Each episode unlocks a new, unbelievable plot twist that kept me wanting more and more. Great storytelling for a great love affair tale!

Critically important story to understand for Spaniards
Very very well documented and reported. This is critically important for all Spaniards and monarchs supporters around the world to understand . But an unfortunate choice of narrators as the tone is very annoying and misses the mark. It distracts from the magnitude of the incredible story. Would absolutely consider retelling this using NPR , wonderly or any more experienced team.

    Not Journalism
If you’re into one sided, pseudo-journalism, closing resembling a telenovela, then you’ll enjoy this podcast. If you, however, appreciate serious investigative journalism then look elsewhere.

    Great narrative
I was looking forward to each week’s new episode. The slightly ironic tone of voice of the narrator implied, without actually saying so, that Corinna certainly is not an innocent angel. IMO, she’s quite lucky to have gotten away without legal punishment. The King sounds like a very vindictive man for whom decency and rules didn’t seem to apply vs his wife/family/business, and also vs Corinna. Having said that, she was absolutely aware of his marriage, and it certainly didn’t seem to hurt her social and financial standing (at least in the first few years of her being his mistress). It’s a frightening thought to be the subject of the wrath of a powerful King, who could and did use the secret police of his country against his former mistress. The different facets were very well presented. I’m looking forward to other podcasts like this one.

    Excellent!
I love it, but Corinna really disgusts me when she tries to besmirch Queen Sofia. The cognitive dissonance she displays in trying to rationalize and justify herself is breathtaking.

    Awful narrator
The narrator is so over the top dramatic, it sounds like you're listening to a cheesy romance novel. The narration adds to the very one-sided feeling of this story. Corinna is greedy and addicted to drama but makes herself out to be the victim in this years-long saga. Meanwhile she's knowingly dating a married KING who throws up red flags faster than you can count. At least take some accountability, sheesh.

    Interesting, Wrong Tone Narration
I found the podcast interesting but the narrator read this in the wrong tone. Off-putting.

    Awesome
I generally only like murder podcasts. Kind of reminds of Crime Junkie. This a fantastic podcast wish more episodes came out during the week. Keep ‘em coming please!

    Good story, odd narration
I was curious about this story and was happy to learn about this podcast. The subject is very interesting but the narration is just bad. Overly dramatic, it’s just bad acting. The story is interesting enough without the cheesy voice. I’d much prefer a clear professional narration.

    Interesting content but…
The narrator sounds so insinuating. I tried, but I couldn’t listen to more than 10 minutes of it. Just tell the story straight without attitude and it’ll be so much better.
