Mom Can't Cook! A DCOM Podcast

Join Luke Westaway and Andy Farrant as they talk about cinema's greatest achievement: Disney Channel Original Movies. From X-TREME rollerblading, to Mermen, to homicidal smart homes, there's something for everyone in these brilliant, baffling films. Also, usually the mom character in the film is unable to cook, and this is considered richly comic. Hence the name.

Two Friends Making Each Other Laugh
I can't believe I only discovered this show last month. Andy and Luke are great and they're having so much fun talking about DCOMs and it's so really entertaining to listen to them do so... Even if I likely won't watch one myself. I've already listened to half the back episodes and my frothing demand for new episodes increases every time I finish another.

    My new favorite podcast
This podcast is my new favorite thing to listen to. It’s just so week done, and absolutely hilarious.

    Maybe it’s a good thing?
Only found out about this podcast due to Luke leaving OutsideXtra, which lead to me following him on Instagram…which is how I discovered this insane and hysterical podcast. So…maybe it’s a good thing he’s leaving part of the Oxboxtra family???

This show is hilarious. I can’t believe it took me so long to find it. 10/10 would listen again.

    Grand Laughs
I’ve only just listened to a couple of episodes for this podcast, but it’s fantastic and I’m definitely going to listen to all the rest. I knew these two from Outside Xbox, so I already knew I’d have fun, and I was proven right. There’s a particular kind of comedy where someone comes up with an absurd concept and describes it as having happened with a completely earnest deadpan that absolutely cracks me up, so you can imagine my delight when it turned out that Luke and Andy do this bit literally every chance they get regarding what happens in the movies. If you’re looking for exactly the comedy style I’ve described, please consider listening!

    Absurdly, Irrationally Hilarious
I laugh out loud, often to the point of pain, at every episode. The energy between Luke and Andy is so much fun, and I appreciate that they clearly love DCOMs while also making as many jokes as possible at their expense.

This podcast is my happy place
It has been such a joy listening to this podcast; Luke and Andy are hilarious, and they give excellent recaps and critique of the movies they cover. I wish there were an infinite number of DCOMs so that they would never run out! (although it maybe would be a curse for Andy and Luke to have to watch infinite DCOMs…)

    Fantastic podcast
I started with eddies million dollar cookoff and gosh dang I do not recommend starting there, but I fell In kove with these gentlemen. Maybe start with a different episode, but do start it, so fun

A great show, from great folk
I didn’t take to podcasts quickly, till this year in fact. Something about the nostalgia of Dcoms lingering in my memory, and Andy and Luke genuinely having a good time and unconstrained by REEDPop makes it a brilliant show. Also found it was a great listening while trying to 100% RDR2

    A Hazard to My Health
I look forward to this show every week, but I can no longer listen to it on my commute. I inevitably end up laughing to the point of tears and can’t see while driving. I also can’t listen to it during my lunch break at work for the same reason- laughing to the point of crying, and my coworkers thinking there’s something wrong with me. If you are looking for a podcast that is only safe to listen to in the safety and comfort of your home, I highly recommend. Just be warned that you might frighten your pets or roommates with sudden bursts of laughter and your inexplicable interest in watching children’s made for tv movies from the early 2000s.

This has become my comfort podcast
I absolutely adore this podcast. A friend of mine introduced it to me and we’ve been listening and discussing it ever since the first few episodes. Andy and Luke are effortlessly hilarious and so many of their phrases and quips have become part of our regular vocabulary. This has quickly become one of my go to comfort podcasts and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun listen. Thank you Andy and Luke for such a wonderful podcast, we always appreciate your takes on this classic movies.

    Best. Podcast. Ever.
This is such an incredible nostalgia trip and worth every minute. I came to it from OXbox, OXtra, and Oxventure and can’t recommend it highly enough.

Why did they give up their hands?
I’d basically listen to Luke and Andy read the phonebook but thankfully I don’t have to. I can listen to them discussing wild Disney Channel Original Movies in a way that routinely makes me laugh so hard i have trouble breathing.

    A++ Podcast
Seriously one of my favorite podcasts. I love hearing Luke and Andy attempt to parse through the insane DCOMs I grew up with. I hope when the run out, they restart the whole list, or maybe do other niche songs or movies. Please please keep it up!

    A funny thing that exists
I don’t know why the world needed a podcast about two men in their 30s dissecting early 2000s Disney channel movies and pointing out all of their strange quirks, but it exists and it’s hilarious.
  • Serious Dashua
    I love this podcast!
This is by far the most niche and enjoyable podcasts in my lineup. It has no right being this good and yet Boom! Andy and Luke have struck gold in this rich vein of weird and quirky Disney originals. So choice!
  • MusicLove89
    Love it!!
This podcast is an incredible combination of nostalgia and constant laughs - I even enjoyed the episodes on DCOMs I didn’t particularly like because the commentary is so good.
  • Lachrym0se
    Such a joy
Andy and Luke have amazing chemistry. They’re brilliant and hilarious. Their comparisons and insights (and accents) make this a must listen podcast. Even if you haven’t seen any DCOMS it doesn’t matter. You will always be entertained.

    Oops, all sincerity!
I was going to write a funny review saying how I hate listening to this podcast in public because they inevitably say something that makes me laugh to myself like a weirdo (throwback to the “blow an o-ring” discussion that caused two suburban women to glare at me when I uncontrollably went “ha!” as I walked past them…) But honestly, I’d like to thank Andy and Luke for providing such an enjoyable, funny, and comforting podcast. I grew up on DCOMs and just moved out on my own to a new city, where I’ve been feeling a little unmoored and had a lot of time to myself. Listening/re-listening to these episodes makes running errands or commuting to work a little less stressful and a lot more silly. Oh, the guy next to me on the train is listening to NPR? Well *I’m* listening to two grown men debate if a ribbon-twirling teenaged Hilary Duff can get officially court-martialed. Take that, Wall Street Jeremy.

    Great at everything they do.
I dislike Disney channel, I dislike video games; but these people are so humorous I listen and watch all the time. Big fan.

Great fun, hilarious as a 90s American kid
Hearing their absolute horror, pleasure, and shock in response to the movies we looked forward to every weekend adds another level of nostalgia and comedy. Their dry, facetious, and quick witted banter and great chemistry is just as delightful here as it is on OxBox and Oxtra. Shows me these two are truly great content creators and presenters. I feel like these guys could review different types of bathroom cleaners and I would still find it hilarious and relaxing.

    Wonderful show
Hilarious show, literally one of the best things I've ever heard. I also highly recommend the Second Helpings podcast for the full Mom Can't Cook immersive experience.

Introducing me to the world of DCOMs.

    Undoubtedly the best!
You’d be an idiot to not listen!! One of my favorite things about Andy and Luke’s podcast’s format is that I didn’t want to watch and I have never watched any of these DCOM movies (except Halloweentown) but I was absolutely hooked and cracking up! The way they absolutely roast or highly praise these movies is my favorite thing ever!!
  • Kuriouskat80
    Always funny
Longtime fan of OX channels and Oxventure. Andy and Luke always manage to lift my mood and make me smile no matter what they are doing. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something to cheer you up.

This podcast is one cranking little bigby! ALL the way to the fable edition!
Does the title of this review sound like nonsense? Well, that’s because it is. But listen to the Mom Can’t Cook podcast and you’ll learn WHY it is! Join Luke and Andy as they lead us into the insane world of late 90s early 2000s DCOMS. The guys break down each movie scene by scene and before long you’ll be belly laughing along with them. One of the most entertaining podcasts out there. 10/10 recommend!

    Much better than source material
This is the only podcast where I go back and relisten to old episodes. I know the premise sounds odd, but it's the best version of the movie nights you have with your friends joking about the movie that you're watching.

One of the best podcasts out there
The shear joy I feel when I see they’ve uploaded a new episode. Luke and Andy are such a joy to listen to and the fact that they chose a podcast topic that lets me relive my childhood is an added bonus. Can’t recommend this podcast more strongly.

Blasts from the past with great points
Reviews of movies I grew up with, and great commentary about them. Plus two amazing hosts. Definitely worth a listen.

    Amazing podcast, Brilliant hosts
There really isn't much to say. Luke and Andy are funny experienced hosts and they elevate the material they cover. That might even sound a bit pretentious but, they genuinele bring more comedy and insight to these DCOMs than they actually have. If you like their work elsewhere such as Oxventure, OutsideXbox or OutsideXtra then you will love them here.

The greatest podcast you never knew you needed
If you told me 5 years ago that my favorite podcast would be two grown men talking about DCOM’s, I would’ve said “Fair enough, that sounds fun.” If you told me it was hosted by Luke and Andy, I would’ve said “This will be the greatest piece of media ever created.” No one knows they need this until they listen to it, and after that there’s no turning back. You’ve plunged into the depths, like a young adolescent boy turning into a fish and/or Spider-Man, we’re not quite sure which yet.

    Mom Can’t Cook
DCOM’s are movies I’ve never seen, never plan to see but I still can’t wait until each new episode of Mom Can’t Cook.

    quints
Currently listening to the episode about quints, and can't help but imagine a remake about the bonkers DCOMs in the style of "Kevin can f himself" where it actually shows how the protagonist sees themselves and how everyone else sees them.

Delightful required listening/comedy paired with situationally watchable “movies”
The trick is to only watch the movies discussed by our intrepid hosts (Andy Farrant and Luke Westaway) after a status resembling “good” (or some similar simulacrum of positive impression) has been confirmed. Don’t be lured in by the sirens song of early Andy and Luke, who seem intent on condemning their loyal listeners to hours of near unwatchable DCOM content. Why they should wish this fate upon us adoring fans is beyond me, but the good news is that we can skip this unpleasantness in favor of their incredibly entertaining podcast discussion of the each weeks often awful show. Andy and Luke are great as hosts and I would gladly follow their clever dialogue and laugh out loud impressions to any content they decide to tackle next (or in addition, but they seem to be quite busy as is).

A Brilliant Adaptation of the MST3K Model
As a lover of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) I do not invoke their name lightly. Both Mom Can’t Cook (MCC) and MST3K frame their humor by going scene by scene through a low budget movie and joking about it. The difference is that in MST3K the audience watches the movie while the comic commentary is being made, whereas MCC discusses the movie in detail after having watched it. The advantage that MCC gets with this approach is the pacing of the comedy. Since the commentary is not tied in real time to the movie, Andy and Luke are able to skip over insubstantial bits, pause and delve into meaningful ones, and jump around in order to explore absurdities, inconsistencies, and on truly special occasions go down tangential rabbit holes where the purest comic gold is mined (i.e. Mall Batman in the “Up, Up and Away” Episode). Having the podcast focus on Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOMs) allows for an inherent diversity of quality and subject matter in the material. Mom Can’t Cook’s theme song demonstrates the variety of DCOM’s available by mentioning there are stories about fish boys, smart houses, and roller blading to name a few. Listeners will be treated to the humor found in both movies that Andy and Luke genuinely love as well as ones that they consider rubbish. In the same way that a rainy day allows you to appreciate the sun, this variety of subject matter and varying levels of quality in the source material provides consistent freshness that makes every episode memorable. Andy and Luke have a chemistry that makes the listener feel like they are the third person in the room and part of a conversation amongst friends. There is a charming roughness and unpolished presentation to their dialogue that makes you feel like you are laughing with the hosts as they explore these jovial threads as opposed to just laughing at their prepared jokes. In closing, I wholeheartedly recommend Mom Can’t Cook. There were times while listening that I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe and could barely see out of my squinted tear-filled eyes. While MCC’s format and subject matter aren’t necessarily groundbreaking it would be hard to imitate, because their execution takes what could have been a generic podcast into something truly magical.

    No longer lonely
I’ve made this podcast part of my morning ablutions and it’s become such a staple that I can no longer shower (even in the evenings) without Andy and Luke there with me. Can’t wait for Don’t Look Under the Bed.

    DCOMs with A+ Comedy
To say Luke and Andy do a brilliant and hilarious job deconstructing DCOMs isn't quite right. Luke and Andy are hilarious and brilliant yes, but deconstruction implies that DCOMs are constructed. It’s probably closer to say that they’re extruded. So Luke and Andy do a hilarious and brilliant job de-extruding them. Which I guess would be intruding? Is that the opposite of extruding? Look, hilarious and brilliant are the takeaway words here.

Mom can’t cook, but Andy and Luke can!
I love this podcast so much; I thought it would be enjoyable just knowing a bit about Andy and Luke from Oxbox, Oxtra, and Oxventure, but I couldn’t possibly have estimated how amazing and hilarious it would be to just listen to two adult men discuss Disney Channel Original Movies. I am currently going through and listening to all of it again, and though I desperately want more, my only real complaint is that I absolutely need a Ramp Warriors shirt. Please!
  • Dragoon 149
    OXBox does it again
As usual, this is quality content of the level that we’ve all come to know and love from OXBox. Definitely worth a listen and hopefully they’ll transition to something else once they run out of ‘95-‘05 DCOM’s.

    Excellence in podcasts
I need 1000 more episodes please. This podcast helps me get through the day with a laugh.

    Ramp Warriors!
The only podcast that reviews DCOMs by the original cast of Ramp Warriors. When ever I am feeling down about life, I listen to an episode and can take comfort that my life makes more sense than the average DCOM plot. I give this podcast 5/5 meaty bones.

    Older Movies?
Love the channel guys! Will you be planning to review the older Disney movies like The Strongest Man in the World starring Kurt Russell?

Terrible movies but lots of laughs
Thank god Luke and Andy watch these movies so we don't have to. Lots of laughs. Thanks guys!

    Great show
Very entertaining, even without watching the movies alongside.
