    So much good info
I have learned soooo much from Dr. Kate Lister over the years. This podcast was one of the first podcasts I got super into—I found it after reading Kate’s book The Curious History of Sex. Highly recommend this pod for anyone interested in history, sex & culture, or a combination of the two.

    Smart Sexy Gritty Messy History
Wow.. just wow. I am so impressed by Kate and her team of producers to bring this smart, sexy, informed history of our chaotic weird sexy past. Thank you Kate!

    Fascinating and hilarious
My new favorite podcast! Kate Lister presents a huge range of really interesting topics - I learn something new every time I listen, even on things I know a lot about - and she is so quick witted and funny. Betwixt the Sheets is the best!

    Fun pod
Kate is delightful to listen too. Funny, bubbly, smart…some of the topics don’t interest me but overall I love this podcast. I love how respectful Kate is to her guests and listens intensely. It’s a different type of podcast and as an American I could listen to all the lovely accents for days. I have learned so much! Keep up the good work.

    Poor interview/Badly Researched
This is just bad interviewing. I just wasted 30+ minutes listening to this all waiting for information that was promised at the beginning of the podcast only to finish the whole episode without having learned anything. Listen to “After Dark: Myths, Misdeeds and the Paranormal” for your history fix instead.

    Enjoy the podcast
I have a lot of fun listening to this show and it’s wide range of topics. Kate is informed and funny. I get a hit when Elenor Janagot (spelling? ) and Kate have a giddy, saucy, and nerdy “girls chat.” I had some explaining to do when my Bluetooth accidentally synced to the company work truck and it was historical underwear playing.

    Love love love
This has become one of my favorite podcasts. I love history, and this podcast is unique and never dry. I turn to Kate when I need a good laugh. Thank you for putting this info out. I’ve learned a lot.

Look, this isn’t a kids podcast but some stupid nicotine pouch clearly marketed at young people. I can’t imagine you would approve it I asked you.

    Such interesting topics!!
I absolutely love this podcast and how much detail each episode goes into each specific topic. My only complaint is that my book costs have gotten out of hand. Between Kates books and the great guests it makes me want all the books that are mentioned.

I love this podcast and love Kate even more. She tackles the issues we all wonder about and are afraid to ask. She’s even better on TV. Brava!

    Pure gold!
This show is my new obsession. I was never a very enthusiastic student of history, as it never seemed all that relevant to me and my daily life. But this podcast discusses all the history I was too embarrassed to ask in any of my classes, as well as a good deal of history I never knew I wanted to know more about! With a balance of cheeky humor and deep insight, host Kate Lister explores concepts of sex, gender, power, and social norms and expectations. In learning about these elements of the past I discover and understand more of where we are in this current moment in time. This podcast, at once titillating and educational, is just pure gold, and I recommend it every chance I get.

    Coarse and juvenile
It could be done well, but done in a coarse, juvenile and intolerant (of men) manner.
  • HurricaneBrax
Some interesting topics loads of casual misandry
The show does cover some interesting topics and has interesting guests but it’s also plump with plenty of passive aggressive misandry. But I guess that’s just the soup du jour these days, in this age of hypocrisy.

    Keep politics out of it
I love this show but when I was listening to a recent episode and your guest started talking about politics, I turned it off. If everyone could just keep their political opinions to themselves, the world could be a more enjoyable place.

    Great show!
I love KL’s books, never realized that she had a podcast. Devouring the back catalog now!

    Great podcast, great host
The subjects are interesting and well covered. I could listen to any of these topics for hours. I thrilled to see new episodes come out. I enjoy the host-guest interactions and the frank conversations. Even the most sensitive topics are handled respectfully. Keep up the great work! You are appreciated.

    Simply love this show!
Dr. Kate Lister’s presentations of the very interesting aspects of humanity throughout the ages always gives me a sense of connection to those people and times. I feel as if I’ve traveled back in time to get a glimpse of the saucy side of life. Just can’t get enough of this all too entertaining, well written, and just the best podcast!

This pod has it ALL 🔥
This podcast is simply fantastic - witty, informative, and oh so scandalous. Dr. Kate Lister is a rare gem of a host - expert knowledge, she’s super gracious, and utterly amusing. Kate’s "fair dues warning" before each show is something you don't want to miss. Listen and become obsessed!

    Extremely Interesting
One of the funniest and well researched, not to mention the many various topics of discussion make Betwixt one of the great History podcasts that are out there that are both informative and easy and a joy to listen too.

    Absolutely fabulous
This show is about sex. BUT it had so much history beyond that. The thing that drives the human race, the reason my parents had me, is not just compilation, it’s history. This podcast covers all of it up to the copulation and if you want to know more about the Aztecs, the tudors, or drag queens, you can really listen to this brilliant woman wax on and interview some amazing historians.
  • Theatrejen6
    Fantastic Show!
Love the host & adore how she makes all the stories almost come alive.

    This show keeps getting stronger
I have really enjoyed this podcast even as I skip over topics that don’t interest me - Kate is a lovely host making even weak interviewees sparkle. My only complaint is the interviewee for the Haití episode the interviewee was asked why slaves were losing limbs - her answer basically there wasn’t any reason. If my memory is correct Haitian riches were indeed in sugar as she rightly stated, but she completely ignored that sugar refinement was and is extremely dangerous. The injustice done is obvious, but her answer of why people were losing limbs was “just cause sadists”. - not that maybe they were forced to do dangerous refinement and probably often lost limbs in explosion or implosion of the sugar. The island was outrageously cruel, but her passion seemed to leave the content unexplained

    Interesting and unique!
I love this show!! The topics are unique, and the guests are experts in their topics. The host is funny and knowledgeable themselves. They take listener requests for topics which diversifies their catalog, and makes each episode interesting. Love it.

Torture is NOT a thing of the past
I cringed my way through the most recent episode. Unfortunately, i had listened to the GITMO episode from This American Life the day before. The TAL episode left me shattered and sobbing because of the torture inflicted on one prisoner…Ra knows how many suffered as he did. Torture is alive and well. Nobody, not one person, has been held accountable for the torture inflicted on the men held at GITMO. This makes Americans no better or worse than the torturers of the past. As long as we continue to abandon the hard won advances in stopping our basest instincts, it will get worse before it gets better.

    Love it!
Kate, I love this series! You take the taboo and secrets and expose them all to the normal light of day! And every time you said “The Menopause “ just cracked me up! I had to have a hysterectomy at 45 and went instantly into menopause. And I still suffer at 58 from the symptoms. But I’ve learned to manage it and enjoy my life to the fullest. Thank you so much for everything you do! Oh!! And I loved your book!

I love this podcast! So much fascinating information in a non-dry delivery! Highly recommend!!

Why no Asian history at all?
As a historian of medicine, I find this show interesting but unfortunate in that it almost completely ignores Asian history, especially Asian medical history. This is particularly glaring since Chinese medicine is the longest continuously practiced medical system in the world and the only traditional medical system to have garnered a Nobel Prize. In all the episodes, I only found one that touched on Asian history at all.

    New Favorite
This is officially my favorite podcast. I’m desperately awaiting every new episode. It’s insightful and dynamic and challenges me to think differently about long believed historical ideas.
  • almostdiva
    Bada$$ pod, bada$$ host!
Kate Lister is a fab host! This pod normalizes female and queer sexuality throughout history in the best, most entertaining way. Kate has great hosts, especially Emma Southon talking about all things Roman and Eleanor Janega anything Medieval. It’s a great mix of historical profiles and history of society and behaviour (origins of make up, kink in the Renaissance, etc).
