Jason1256Great Podcast of Real Chess PlayersLove your podcast and hearing relatable stories of folks on their chess journey like me. I bought the chessnut pro using your code tonight. I play in a lot of the unrated clubs around LA and hope playing longer time controls on the chessnut will prepare me for OTB rated games some day.

easyjay39402Inspirational!This is a brilliant podcast which makes the world of amateur chess - the realm that most chess players inhabit - fully to life. At the urging of my grandson, I took up online chess in the wake of the pandemic and it has become my passion, displacing golf. Disclosure: I am not an “adult improver”, as I turned 80 last month. I suppose you might call me an “elderly improver”. I had to chuckle when the host complained of slowing calculation speed after age 47. Believe me, it slows to a crawl if you live into your 80’s. The beauty of chess is that it doesn’t matter, there are always opportunities to explore the depths of this wonderful game.

cocodojoCan Bruce do it?Bruce Neal makes so much sense. I recently just got into chess at 45. I’m not delusional but I am so sick of the “you can’t do it culture.” I’d rather listen to reasons how you can then reasons why you can’t. Episode 24 with Kevin Perrera was great in 2021… bring him back!
-
RenqwaVery helpful and friendly chess adultThis is best amateur chess podcast plus perpetual chess.
-
JsmoosssFills a unique gap in chess learning materialInformative. Fun. I learn something from each episode and moreover the vibe from this podcast is so definitively positive. Keep up the great work.

JameslkiopUnderrated Learning PlatformThis show is underrated simply bc if nothing else just from listening you learn so much about the chess world including different books, strategies, and ways to learn and what the community is like and how it feels to go to a tournament. If feels good to hear the stories of how people may have gotten discouraged or persevered through a tough time in their journey. It creates a shared connection for all of us and allows us to grow and learn together plus you learn a lot about the different philosophies and theories in chess that people develop and it can help you develop your own theory for your own practice.

rjn_e289Great podcast for adult improvers!I have jumped back into playing chess as an adult improver and I love to listen to this podcast to hear how people approach improving. Kevin is a really good interviewer and I love the variety of guests. It is also helpful to hear the books or online resources that people use. This podcast is so good that I jumped back to episode #1 and I am listening from the beginning :-)

tdruskAwesomeReally enjoy this show.
-
LostFanOnTheRoadI like this show!Kevin is a great interviewer, and for someone like me who recently came back to chess, it's inspiring to hear his guests' stories. I met Kevin this week at the North American Open in Las Vegas and he was also super friendly and gracious (in spite of having just let a win slip away). Always weird to meet a podcaster because their "show voice" is actually just their real voice. Go Kevin, and go Forest!
-
AmazungAdult improvers you can relate toAdult improvement episodes were my favorite part of the perpetual chess podcast, so needless to say, when I discovered chess journeys I was ecstatic. Kevin, the host, solely interviews players I myself can better relate to and does so in an engaging and inquisitive manner. Always look forward to my weekly listen of this wonderful chess podcast.

-
DjaramiGreat MotivatorI learn many tips from his podcasts. Down to earth and very applicable to us beginners that have started to see the fun and challenge in this game.

Stephan BeCan’t wait for Thursday’s morning commuteI can’t thank Dr. Schull enough for this podcast. He makes chess improvement relatable to the everyday mom/dad working a job and raising a family and trying to continue improving at chess. I appreciate how his guests range is skill from 1000-2000. Keep up the great work!
-
Rich B2For inspiration, listen to this podcastSuch a great podcast! I learn something from each guest and really appreciate Dr. Scull's candor about his own journey as well as his sense of humor! It's been helpful to hear how others improve, how they view the game itself, and how chess has impacted their lives. Excellent pod that is worth your time.

Rosinbag1Great Chess Improvement PodcastA great podcast on the rise to the upper tier of chess related content. Engaging guests, content and entertaining. Wide range of episodes focusing on chess improvement and have enjoyed each episode. The podcast has only improved over time and enjoy each release as always something to take away from the interviews.

WikiGuyGreat for Beginners and Intermediate ChessI love Chess Journeys. I’m a binge listener, going back to episode 1.
-
Trumpet83Engaging Host and Great ContentDr.Scull pulls amazing stories out of these guests who are often represent the rank and file experience of the bulk of players who make up the chess world. It’s fun to hear their stories!
-
Hdhrggggggdff billGreat podcastListen to every episode. Dr skull is a funny and quirky host. I enjoy hearing the struggles of him and his guests
-
AverageChessEnjoyerGreat window into amateur chessLove the show. Found it recently and really enjoying so many episodes. Great reminder of all the ways people chess. Lots of fun.
-
CraiggoryCKeep ‘em ComingI love the different perspectives that Dr. Scull gets each week. One week it’s IM elect Tatev Abrahamyan or WGM Jen Shahade the next week it’s a computer programmer that has just played in their first OTB tournament. Like I said in the title, keep ‘em coming! -NM Craig C.
-
jcgoodyGreat for us ascending playersI love that this podcast captures people in my same position as a player. Inspirational, enlightening, and sincere, it’s a great listen for anyone who is trying to improve their chess game. Great stuff!
-
SimbaWilliamA chess podcast that we can all relate toThis podcast is great for average chess players (which means most of us!). It's interesting to hear how others train and stay motivated & positive.
-
Judd717Glad I found this podcastI think it’s tough to get started in chess. There are lots of wrong turns to take. This podcast has helped steer me in the right directions. It’s also just a good way to get to know the game and the people in it. Thank you!
-
Darrick_shanksGreat podcastI enjoy this podcast, my only qualm is I wish there was more of a structure. Sometimes the conversations are all over the place and topic of improvement is barely touched upon.
-
Jim RatliffElicits very useful information from his guestsI've voraciously consumed the entire back catalog of Ben Johnson's Perpetual Chess podcast, which is all great. And Kevin—on Chess Journeys—has interviewed some of the same people. For reasons I can't pin down, Kevin's interviewing style somehow has managed to elicit very useful additional information from those overlapping guests that hasn't come out on either Perpetual Chess or any other venue. So, Chess Journeys is very worthwhile if you're an adult improver.
-
Suraj RaviAwesome Podcast for Adult ImproversMost chess content out there focuses on players who are extremely proficient already. Dr. Scull has managed to put together a super interesting podcast for us mere mortals who, by definition make up the majority of players! Glad to see content like this is getting made.
-
cbutzonAwesome podcast for adult improversI’m so glad that I found this podcast in its early days. Kevin (the host) is an ambitious adult improver himself. I have found a ton of value in his interviews with guests rated slightly higher than me, and his master interviews are also super entertaining even if not as directly applicable to myself. I also very much enjoy Ben Johnson’s Perpetual Chess podcast, but sometimes feel like his guests are not as instructive even though they are entertaining. I’m hoping that Kevin keeps this rolling for many years to come!
-
The Professor131313Awesome Podcast!!Kevin chess podcast is awesome!! I’m thankful for his adult improver interviews.. As an adult improver my self, I can relate to all the topics discussed.. I really like Kevin’s personality, he’s funny and very entertaining.. Highly recommended!!! Thanks Dr. Scull!!
-
APM1991Great discussions of chess improvementThis is a very enjoyable podcast for anyone interested in chess improvement and hearing about others’ thoughts and experiences on the topic. My only complaint is the sound quality is sometimes poor, making it hard to understand what’s being said. But in the most recent episode I heard the quality was excellent, so hopefully that’s being fixed.
-
l0ve it!!!!Good funMy favorite chess podcast. Kevin very relatable and a natural interviewer. Guests and discussions are relevant and give me a boost and encouragement to keep working on my chess. Keep up the great work
