My_dogs_name_is_LunaVery wise this podcast (for some reason I can’t change my review name)I’m an aspiring writer and the podcast as well as the fantastical word craft teaching series has helped me a lot in learning how to write. I like how you guys analyze media today and judge what’s actually good and what’s actually bad; it aligns with a good sense of logic so I’ll definitely keep listening. Edit: I have no idea if you see these reviews, but if you do, here’s my question: Could y’all talk about why Marvel movies are bad? Marvel is really bad now I see that clearly. Where did it all start? What movies do most people think are good that aren’t as good as they (me to be honest) think?

Poetic LinguistBetter than Haunted CosmosI am an aspiring writer who loves reading (yes, i did read the 100 cupboards series all in one day…sorry Mr. Wilson). As much as I enjoy the storytelling in Haunted Cosmos, their childish flirting is so gross; I didn’t even know how bad it was until I started listening to this. By the way, if you read this Mr. Wilson, I’m the girl who argued with you about tiny Tim (you probably don’t remember me). I was talking to my dad about our argument in the spring of 2024, and he mentioned a crippled catholic girl who, when she was telling her father about other children mocking her and saying that she will never walk, saw the crucifix and said “I get to suffer like Jesus” which is what Tiny Tim said. Thank you for amazing conversation starters and thought provokers. Be prepared for more arguments in the future!

Henry728359))Love your podcastI’m interested in writing a book for kids. I love your books.

JB Audio boi“Judeo-Christian”? Not Gonna Make ItThe fact that they are coddling and conflating modern day Judaism (distinguished from Christians by rejection of Jesus Christ) by making a whole episode about “Judeo-Christian Christmas”. Sadly shows they lack wisdom and discernment to apply the covenantal story of scripture as now they are confusing people. It’s just: Christian. Not “Judeo-Christian”

jermburksJust listen it’s amazing!!!!!I’ve always been fascinated and wanted to write, maybe someday, but in the meantime there is much wisdom and advice in this podcast to help teach your kids to live learning, create a balance in the genres they read and help them to choose know when a book should be cherished or trashed. Thanks guys, just love the show!
-
i♥️2writeThanksGrateful to these shenanigans. Thanks so much to Coach Wilson for finally finishing silent bells. Keep it up you guys!!

Almost_dakotaWorth aspiring tooFirst episode I tuned in to, ep 155. Nate has 2 of his daughters on and the interaction between the 3 of them is incredible. You can tell that they are genuine friends. Which is not always the case between parents and their kids. Whatever Nate is doing, whatever these guys are attempting to achieve with this podcast, it sure seems like it worked. So I will definitely be back for more.

Anonymous65424Not too bad. Here is my review of this podcast: Not too bad. I guess I kinda nailed it in the title.

Some Other^3 GuyRory!Lovely seeing theory in practice!

MarcusMontgomery11/10Brian’s struggle to understand Nate’s metaphors is one of the highlights of this show. Never fails to make my day.
-
wargograwGreatNate is really obnoxious but also one of the most interesting people on earth (and he’s probably fine with that). If you want to see my impression of him, here goes: “X Like… X” That’s it. A grown man and successful author should not be so reliant on the word “like.” Also, saying “sasf” stopped being funny a few dozen episodes back. Having said that, these guys have great opinions, tackle a wide variety of topics, and are very informative.

E McPheaFun listenNate and Brian have some unique ideas. It’s worthwhile to listen even (especially?) for a young homeschool mom with lots of tiny people and no time to write. This podcast will inspire the way you think about your home library and what soul food you are serving your family. Also. I can't look at Blah Blah without seeing Brian. Is that a good thing? 🤣

Handshakes Dhaka JansensGood Soul FoodThis podcast has renewed my love for stories. It has changed the way I look at many things, including helping me comprehend the impact stories (of all forms) can have on a person. The perspective shifts I have been blessed with have helped me to take a step towards being more Christ-like. In short, God has used this podcast to change me for the better. Stories are soul food, and this podcast is GOOD soul food. Bonus perk: I’ve been inspired enough to write, which has actually been a blast. If you haven’t started listening, I hope this encourages you to do so.
-
HomemakirVery interestingTheir insight has helped me think of stories in ways I have never thought before, which I am thankful for. This podcast has made me appreciate stories and learn how to read stories with a Christian worldview. Although they can be too contrarian, in my opinion. Like contrarian for the sake of being contrarian (at least it comes across that way as times). Still love it!
-
CP171717Very goodI’ve listened to every single episode, and have not finished less than 5. Very good insights and refreshing for men to have strong opinions and convictions. Thank you.
-
IrisSophiaThank you! This podcast inspires me to tell and write my son stories!

doworkdaddyGratefulI am SO grateful for this podcast. It has helped me grow in getting the gospel to function in my media intake and how I look at my life and my family’s as a story written by a very much in control Father. I have seen wonderful effects as my husband and I discuss subjects brought up on the podcast, particularly on my husbands leadership in our home and I am so grateful for how it has helped me look at this world around us not with despair but with perspective and hope that God is a master storyteller and He is in control. Thank you, N.D & Brian! So grateful!

stepheroniousnessI am hookedI started the first episode this afternoon—five episodes later and I know I’ll be blazing through them all in no time. I feel like a sponge soaking in all of the book wisdom to elevate and nourish the hobbies I love most, reading and writing.

mer_lishTears of JoyA friend recommended this podcast to me in March, and I just listened to an episode for the first time yesterday. I’m only halfway through my second episode (ep. 109 — “you have bad taste”), but I had to pause and write this review because I am crying tears of thankfulness to God. I have had lots of similar experiences / ideas / concepts about storytelling (e.g., feeling an urgent compulsion to take voice recordings of family history, people only compliment your work but no constructive criticism) — but I have never heard others express them before. I feel the Lord equipped me to tell non-fiction or fiction stories grounded in understanding of Scripture, and SASF is the first resource I’ve found that understands this. I just finished my sophomore year in college as a “Digital Storytelling” major. I tell people it’s essentially journalism, and that’s the career that seems most lucrative with my skill set and passions, but you’ve really made me start to think about other ways the Lord wants to use the skills He has put in me. Thank you so much for being faithful to the Lord and creating this podcast! Love in Christ, your newest faithful listener (for years to come)
-
Servo FidemAbsolutely love thisFantastic listen! I’m always leaving an episode edified and with a new perspective on how to think Christianly about a particular topic

Steven87154500My favorite podcastThere are only a couple of podcasts that I eagerly await each week and this is one of them. It just kind of goes where it goes as far as the discussion. 5 stars.

ChristianWritersUnite!Writer In-TrainingThis show has some good advice, if you can make it past the rambling. The hosts are funny, if a bit arrogant. It was not the show for me, but it could be useful to others.

Tom Leif AA screenwriter’s perspectiveAs someone who was “taught” character and story by academy award winners and best selling authors, I can say I’ve learned far more listening to this podcast. It’s not enough to know how to do something, but why you should do something. Working in LA, I’ve learned “how” to create stories (mostly in screenplay context) but never why. After I was saved by the Grace of God, I realized I lacked the why. My eyes were instantly opened, and I was able to understand the flaws and triumphs of the films I watched and the books I read. When I watch a film review on YouTube, for instance, I’m unable to digest the critique because it’s overwhelmed by the reviewer’s inability to define what is good, beautiful, true, or evil, ugly, and false. God gives us those answers through His Word. We don’t have to guess what makes a story beautiful or a character lovable. SASF is a great example of what submission to God’s Word can do for you as an artist and creator. It’s refreshing to hear the truth in a podcast. And yes, I can actually defend what truth means because I’m in Christ and I believe His Word. This podcast should be on the top of the list for anyone who wants to create stories (or raise children.)
-
Meiguoren@zhongguoGoodI’ve learned so much about living the Christian life through this podcast.
-
SugarShaneO-MackCook’s tour of storytellingI’ve enjoyed listening to the podcast. The hosts are bright, engaging, and thoughtful. The episode where they explain story architecture has changed they way that I consume media; that being a good thing. Thank you for your efforts gentlemen, they are much appreciated. Cheers!
-
ChristianDadPilotIt’s greatLove this podcast. I wish I had heard much of this years ago.
-
vkadylakYour theology is completely skewed!I listened to your podcast on Moses as a wizard, and am blown away at what you said. Moses was not a wizard, and miracle is a work of God and magic is a supernatural action from a source other then God, the devil or demonic. You go of talking about how running is miraculous, no that’s normal m, flying would be miraculous. And we do not see imaginary things! You didn’t define miracle by the right definition. Miracle does not mean extraordinary.
-
Rebecca PowGratitudeThank you guys for this podcast. I have benefited greatly from it, especially as a father. I do have a question for Nate. What happened to the Great Divorce film? Will it ever happen? How do you plan on adapting the story into a film?
-
Mas AraiFeed your soul! He(or she)’s hungry. This podcast is fun and useful to anyone who loves stories, anyone who’s looking for stories to share with others, anyone who writes stories. I don’t miss an episode.

Ps. JonStories are Soul FoodThis is by far my favorite podcast!

ChelseaBVDMThe Rings of Power EpisodeI just wanted to point out something that was mentioned in the episode where Nate and Brian watched about five minutes of the first episode 😂 There was critic over the line Galadriel gave of that time being “before the first sunset”. This WAS an accurate statement. There was NO sun or moon at this time. Galadriel was born in “Years of the Trees” where their light came from two trees. They did not get a traditional Sun and Moon until the First Age. If you ever try watching Rings of Power again, you should refresh yourself on Tolkien’s world before reviewing it! Maybe you’ll have the same conclusions, but it would make a more insightful review.

loo_loo_I’m a sasf head!STORIES ARE CERTAINLY SOUL FOOD!!! I love this podcast! I went to a Bible study a while back and one of my friends had a problem with the study referring to someone from the Bible as a character. In response I told her, truly we’re all characters living a story. It doesn’t make us any less real. What matters is what kind of character you are, and what story God tells through you. Naturally I would never have such a thought. I am of a simple mind. I owe such a thinky thought all to this podcast. My friend didn’t appreciate it however, she’s not a sasf head like me! can’t wait for the next episode!
-
ChaseQuartCan’t. Stop. Listening. My wife introduced me to this podcast a few weeks ago and I’ve been bingeing ever since. Well done, fellas.
-
Emma K BensonImagination SparkerListening to this podcast takes me back to the days of my classical Christian education, when conversations inside and outside the classroom sparked my own creativity. Each episode makes me want to read more good stories! It also inspires me to lean into the creativity the Lord has given me. It is a fun and easy podcast to listen too. Thank you guys for this!

KBJClemI can’t get enoughI have always loved stories. Listing to Nate talk about the stories of reality is beautiful. So beautiful! I’ve heard most episodes and they really speak into my life and faith in an impactful way. Memorable: most recent podcast 78, the idea of getting my life straight and keeping my own story beautiful before I can sit down and create other stories… that was impactful as a stay at home mom with art teaching and soap making on the side. I love the emphasis on keeping priorities straight in a way that honors God. Memorable: the way Nate talked about Adam and Jesus in one episode was riveting: Adam could choose to abandon his bride and follow God, or stay with his bride and abandon God. Christ got the same choice and changed the story, he sacrifice himself in the place of his bride. I may never have understood this ever before. Thank you and Keep going!

Joshua ReichardReview Brandon Sanderson’s StormLight ArchivesYou all have been encouraging to listen to recently. It’s great to hear someone who believes in Christ working in Hollywood and challenging the norm and helping people watch movies and shows! I’d love to hear your take on Sanderson and some of his books. Whether you like them, don’t like them, recommend or not? Thanks
-
GrayHavensfanGreat Listen!I first listened to the one episode With David Radford (lead member of The Gray Havens, and Host of The Gray Havens Podcast) which got me hooked! Excited to listen to more.
-
umahkNew Binge ListenerI only discovered SASF the middle of this month and have already listened through 28 of the podcasts. As an author and reader, I love being challenged to think deeply about the stories I'm reading as well as the stories I'm plotting out. But as a parent looking to curate your child's reading, you will find this podcast especially helpful. Wilson and Kohl are hilarious and insightful as they discuss various topics and questions within the scope of story. If you want to think of books in light of The Story as God has authored it, this is a podcast you will thoroughly enjoy.
-
SiendiorSASF and High HorsesOne star off for Nate’s insufferable condescension, you may think it’s endearing. It crosses the line too much. Otherwise, super great stuff, taken with a grain of salt with some issues (i.e. Calvinists will forever be terrible with the problem of evil)
-
FaerieQueenFanEnjoy the insight, not so much N.D’s pompousnessI am a young writer, and I really enjoy the comments and insights from these two men on writing and reading, but it’s very hard to get past Nate’s condescending attitude. His tone is noticeably pompous…I mean, comparing himself to Lewis??
-
pearllion26Stumbled upon treasureSo glad I came across this podcast. I always finish an episode encouraged and with new knowledge.
-
bob019377Really great podcastThis podcast is full of good things to listen to. The spider man episode and the 100 cupboard episodes were my favorite!
-
Bryan JemersonLiterary analysis/ fun!If you want a podcast that helps you learn to read and watch stories with your brain on, this is it. As a Christian writer in a pagan field (hi modern American poetry!), it’s been interesting to see how a successful Christian writer navigates the publishing landscape. Also I like that these guys have definite opinions! - Renee, poet and homeschooling mom of 5
-
Sewer Chicken SuperiorityGroovilicious PodcastJust gonna say it, I love this podcast. It’s fun, deep, and makes you think (which is important as I’m a college student who foolishly doesn’t think enough). I would recommend this to all ages. Keep on serving God through writing and podcasting!
-
AshLittleExcellentWhat a gem this podcast is! If you love good stories, this is the podcast for you. I thought I had a favorite podcast but this one is quickly making its way to the top. It’s encouraging and challenging but also just so refreshing!
