One of the most incredibly creative productions
This has to be one of THE best ‘casts available with its unique story line, plot twists and endearing characters. I am totally blown away by the amazing creativity and well-thought-out setup of the characters, interactions and “what in the F did I just hear?” moments. This acting & writing crew is amazing, and deserves every bit of support they garner from their audience. I sincerely wish I could give 10 stars instead of 5!

    Interesting concept
I listened halfway through season two, but then I couldn’t do it anymore. The idea is sound, the concept is sound, production is top-notch, but never understood the dynamic between Crowley and John. Crowley is super one dimensional, and after a while, just began to bug. I understand that the creator is trying to world build, still, but after a while, the story just became a tad self indulgent.

    Worth the listen!
Soothing voice in the main character which makes listening to the show so flowing! Great story with each episode that takes you in the journey. The cast, story plot, immersive sound is worth the listen!

    I love Kurtis
Listening to S2, E1, and I love Kurtis. It’s always great to have characters who might not know anything about LGBTQIA+ issues, but are still supportive and willing to grow at such a fast speed. As a demiboy, (he-they) it really warms my heart to have not just LGBTQIA+ representation, but actual positive discussion of it. Best episode so far.

    How I died
Great story line keep up the amazing story!!

    Great narrative, disappointing development
This story is engaging and very well written in general. However, the main female characters of (The sheriff and the psychiatrist) quickly grew unnecessarily arrogant, hostile, and manipulative. The sheriff had an episode highlighting her intelligence and abilities. Within the next few episodes she became needlessly ignorant and belligerent. Same with the psychiatrist supposedly evaluating Jon. It quickly became annoying; a disappointment because the idea of a doctor who can see ghosts was well executed here, and those were two VERY strong female characters with great substance.

    Entertaining and just creepy enough
Love the creepy storyline. Each episode is a little different, so I don’t feel lost if I haven’t listened in a minute. Good voice acting keeps it entertaining and fun to keep listening to.

Decent storylines, some thin acting & a TERRIBLE therapist
I started listening to season 2 fwiw, and was immediately drawn in. The acting for the main character’s nemesis is a little overdone (she’s either the most rageful person ever or she can’t unclench her jaw. Ever. Or both.). And the therapist reviewing the protagonist is so horrible as a therapeutic practitioner I can hardly listen to it.

    Wonderful!
The story is unique, the acting great, and the sound design is beyond! Such detail and awareness of the little things that make it sound amazing! I’m glad the episodes are longer in season 2. As a mortician, it’s fun to hear things I’m specialized in and everything thus far has been accurate. This is my new favorite.

    Fantastic show!
I’ve just started listening to the first session. I’m hooked.

    Love it
I am hooked on this podcast. It started a little slow but definitely picked up be upside 5 or 6 in season one and I’m on season three after three days. How the stories continue.

    Love love love!!!
I love this podcast! I’m still in the first season, but I am obsessed with the story, the sound design, and the actors! Some high quality casual spooks! I also love the way the acting is so organic. Using a recording device as a forensic scientist as the excuse to explain things verbally that would otherwise be incredibly weird to dictate aloud is genius!

Season One is a Good Start
This is better then okay, but it has some issues. Many podcasts rely too much on endless swearing and yelling, this happens here too. The acting is ok and decent sound design. The creator/writer with the wrap up pat on the back after each episode is really just awful. A few episodes into season 2 and it is just going downhill from here. I can no longer look past the mediocre overacting to care about these characters.

    Engaging, Creative, and incredible
This show has been an amazing ride. I love every person’s story, how they connect in an overarching way, the flow of the mystery and the suspense. John’s journey is truly captivating for me and I cannot wait for the next season!

Enjoyed this show until season 2
I was a committed listener who binged season one and all of the special episodes immediately following season one. Unfortunately, when you introduced the pronoun persona I immediately checkout out of the story. My suspension of belief dissolved and I realized that the show creator was bending to societal pressure and false norms. Pretty disappointed by the change in season two. I will no longer be listening to shows created by this producer. Same review has been left on other platforms.

    Engaging
Fully engaged in John’s story. At times I understood why he kept himself closed off and others I would whisper shout at him to open up to SOMEONE because it would be in his best interest. Pick his head up. Notice. Not going to lie, I didn’t like Mace Kim-but I might be projecting. I’m excited to know where this story ends up. What happens to Springfield?

    Love this shows
I’m a bit confused though. How many Kim’s are there? Ir is she a part of a group that’s being referred to that the listener is not privy to yet?

    Great audio drama!!
I keep searching for audio dramas that capture my attention and this one fits the bill! I love everything about it!

    Skip it
The podcast could be really good, but the failure to write women well and the voice acting are really preventing it from achieving that. The women are all written as angry, sarcastic and over the top. This leads the voice actors to exaggerate those qualities and it really pulls you out of the story. And there are random characters with English accents that make no sense whatsoever in the context of the story or town. The main character is supposed to be sympathetic, but comes across as whining and entitled because he’s supposed to be the smartest person in the room because he can talk with the dead.
  • newamerykahn
Gets worse the longer it goes
The writing on this keeps deteriorating. John’s character is an idiot. For someone who has talked to the dead for most of his life, you’d think he’d be better equipped to manage it. The fact that the dead can easily rile him up while he’s working makes it difficult for me to believe that no one knows his secret unless everyone around him are stupid. The consistent stupidity makes it difficult to enjoy the underlining search for the serial killer so it’s an unfollow for me at this point.
  • Altheawkward
Great show, sometimes has cringe moments.
I might update my review the further I get into the series as I have just started season 2 and i’m not caught up yet fully. So far, I am really impressed with the story and sound design. There are definitely moments that I feel the suspense build or I get creeped out purely because if audio cues. I really have become attached to Jons character , and I don’t usually like unreliable narrator stories but I think this podcast does it really well. I really do love this show, but I do wish they had more in depth trigger warnings and that the episodes about the college swimmer and 15 year old girl who took her ow life was handled a bit better within the series. This show deals with a lot of sensitive topics and sometimes they’re able to handle them really well and other times it’s borderline careless and seems more like it’s there for shock value or to make the listener uncomfortable rather than making an important statement or advocate for victims. It just can feel a bit shallow when trauma a female went , that a lot of women go through, is just used as a tool for character development or show some aspect of the male main character’s personality. Also, I’m pretty anti-cop so I may be biased but Crowley’s character is really hard to feel any sympathy for. She almost becomes a sort of burden, like I just want to skip any parts that she’s in. She feels like a very flat character.

SO FAB that I joined the Patreon !
This is one wild ride. At first I thought it was going to be a “Monster of the Week” type Audio Drama. It has turned into a story that I can hardly wait to hear the next episode. It can be quite dark but it’s done very well. You want to binge since every Ep leaves you hanging …so you must hear more! 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Creative and Clever
This podcast is creative, amazing, and one of my new favourites! It is cleverly written, from a different perspective than I've heard on any other podcast. Beyond the imaginative story line, the voice acting and background sounds are believable and reel the listener into Dr. Jon Spacer's world. I enjoy the creator's commentary and refreshing enthusiasm for the story at the end of the episode - it's understandable that each new episode is his new favourite! No other fictional podcast, especially in the crime genre, has captured my attention and emotions like this one. I absolutely, without a doubt, recommend this podcast!

    Love, love, love it!
I am just now finding this fabulous podcast. It’s fiction about a coroner in a weird town. The story, characterization, actors, and ambiance are the best. I want to binge through it but am waiting so I can savor each episode.

    Forever favorite
I love this podcast. I’m really into forensics and true crime and it’s really awesome to find something that’s fictional without being super tacky or with super in depth gore descriptions. Really well written and overall the voice acting is spectacular. It really makes me feel like I’m in the moment with all the characters (almost like an overlooking ghost 😆).

    Love It
This is a great story and I am anxiously waiting for the next season.

Just what I’ve been looking for
This show is the perfect combination of everything I’ve been missing from my current podcast lineup. It’s charming and clever while keeping the rather cynical (and sometimes sinister) nature of death. Each character and their story is intriguing — their cases mercilessly sucking you in. The grander themes are also well executed and each episode builds on the last in one way or another. A definite recommend.

    How I Died
This is in the top 3 of podcasts in my opinion. I listen on android, but I had to fire up the iPad to leave this review. The show in simple terms is just, “Awesome .” The sheriff is a bit over the top, but besides that I have zero complaints. Great job guys, I’m a fan.
  • Avestia01
    This is a true favorite!
This story line is truly an original type of podcast. I only wish there were a few more seasons available to binge on. My only complaint is that the episodes are too short. Even if you don’t really like stories about ghosts, you will enjoy this one!

    New Favorite Audio Drama Find
I have not found one as good as How I Died in quite sometime! This is for Anyone looking for an immersive audio drama. I struggle with my anxiety, panic disorder, and depression, so to get out of my head, I listen to podcasts. Love the creator comments as well. Thank you for creating & sharing this Podcast!!!

I like the writing, I hate how it is presented!
Vince!, Stop telling us how you feel at the end of every single episode. Is annoying and it kills the magic of the ending. You should do that only to Patreon fans, offered it as a bonus for those fans only. I listen to a lot of pod theater and no one is doing that. Most of them explain episodes on their website and is done on written form. Is so tiring to hear you explain everything, you are leaving no room for us to imagine. You are killing the magic of the show. Plus on top of that you keep saying on EACH ! episode “ Oh this is my favorite episode, Really? I thought the one before was. and the one before that one and the one before that one was. Sorry man I’m going to unfollow.
  • Vielekusse
    Can’t wait for season 3
Loved the story line and how the dynamic is shaping up for season 3. Jon’s character development is great and hopefully leading to a revelation of sorts next season. :) Also, you can skip ahead or back if you don’t want to hear commentary or adds - just so everyone knows. Magic of technology.
  • Luster99
Great First Season - Bad Second Season
The first season was really interesting - except for Crowley being permanently angry. Unfortunately, the second season started with an episode with a very distinct political agenda that overwhelmed the actual story and Jon's character became a complete hypocritical jerk with his behavior in the lab at the end of the episode so I was forced to abandon the series. Definitely give the first season a listen, but skip the second season if you want to continue to maintain any sort of respect for Jon.
