Financial Advisor Marketing Podcast

48

Financial advisors, does this sound familiar? You’re barraged with people and companies who promise to help you get six thousand new clients in thirty seconds or less as long as you follow their magic tip, trick, or tactic. If so, take a deep breath and relax because that is NOT what this show is about. Lol. Hi, I’m James Pollard. I’m the founder of TheAdvisorCoach.com and host of the “Financial Advisor Marketing” podcast. This podcast is rooted in timeless principles designed to help financial advisors attract their ideal audiences, forge authentic relationships, and build deep roots with prospective clients. If you listen to this podcast, I think you’ll find three things to be true: First, the information shared in this podcast is deceptively simple. This means you don’t have to be a genius or marketing expert to get results. I take immense pride in keeping things simple. Let everyone else chase complexity. Second, the episodes are chock-full of data, research, and studies. This means advisors can do their due diligence on marketing strategies and make informed decisions about how they’d like to build their businesses. And third, I don’t take myself too seriously. I joke around, laugh, and have fun. If any of this appeals to you, I encourage you to listen. ~James Pollard

    Over delivers
James over delivers and brings great value to financial advisors. Weather just starting off or have been in the business for a while, this is a great resource.

    Passionate & Clearly An Expert
James’s podcast is the real deal! So many advisors misunderstand marketing and the concepts on this show. James energetically brings so many great strategies and tactics advisors can use to grow their practice. Regardless of their experience or their current revenue, they can implement many of these lessons the day they hear them. This is quickly becoming one of my go-to shows!

No one cares about your ego
The first episode I listened to was from July 4, 2020. He spends the first 4 mins slamming other podcasts for advisors. Very petty look.

    Sexist...?
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has written a negative review due to this topic. During one episode - a female who was a subscriber to his newsletter is discussed. She asked to put her subscription on pause while on maternity leave. He talks about he not only told her no, but he goes on to blacklist her so she’s unable to resubscribe and then shames her for wanting to focus on her family while on her leave. He tells her she now has a family to think about and it is her responsibility to work even harder during this time. So incredibly out of touch with reality. I was enjoying the podcast up until this point. Shaming women is a hard pass for me.

As a retired FA-turned FA coach myself, this is “Grade A” content James is putting out!
I’m moved by businesses that are driven by education based marketing because you get value that moves well beyond the many that end up being too pitchy (knowingly or unknowingly) imho. This is a great series to follow.

    Just Exploiting to Make Money
James is a good speaker, and knows the BASIC ideas of what it takes to succeed as a financial advisor. However, I consider him a motivational speaker at best because he brings up your spirit but at the end of the day, he only really offers generic advice. Work hard, market yourself, don’t give up, etc. I seriously doubt he was successful as a financial advisor. If he was, he wouldn’t be doing this podcast as a full time job. He knows that every financial advisor that starts out is desperate for help because it’s a do-or-die industry. For this reason, I say he is exploiting you to make money off ads and whatever program he sells you. If you need a motivational speaker to help get you through the day, listen to this podcast. If you’re looking for how-to, don’t expect much. Unless you’re friends with a bunch of rich people that are willing to help you, the best thing you can do to be successful as a financial advisor is partner with somebody who is already successful.

Great practice advice, without any fluff
James cuts right through all the usual BS to give really solid advice for advisors looking to grow a successful practice. Highly recomended!

James is worth the time, and price.
James has a lot of great info about marketing and growing your business. Yes, his business is for you to pay for his newsletter subscription, but if you just listen to the podcast you’ll get 20% of the information for free. I’m an inner circle member, and can honestly say there is something in every issue that I think is with the money. It isn’t for everyone, but listen to the free podcast for several months, see what you gain, and make the decision for yourself.

    Disgrace
This guy just tells women to work harder while taking maternity leave. What an idiot. He obviously is out of touch with reality.
  • FA2441
    Obnoxious and self-centered
These guys might have great FA tools and guidelines, but they are too full of themselves. Tough to listen too.

    Confused
Website looked interesting, listened to a few episodes. After attempting to check out his background, I couldn’t ANY information ‘James Pollard’, his background, or qualifications. If he had some kind of credentials to speak of, it would give his ideas some merit.

    All about Marketing!
I have to say I really enjoy this podcast. One thing i like to keep in mind as I listen to it is that its about marketing. James leads by example and I think that is super important. Is he going to talk about funds and what kind of plans to set up for our client no. This is all about getting our financial firms in the place we want it to be. Through this podcast he helps us tiobecome great at Marketing and the Financial side as well! We also have to remember podcast are free the real value comes from implementing and investing in things. James main idea I think is we as advisors should invest in ourself.

    Host has no credentials
I tried looking him up to find out more of his background. The problem is, he doesn’t really have any background. He appears to be mid-20s, a few years out of college and has no advisor or coaching experience besides having started his advisor coaching business... Good for him for starting something from nothing. But buyer beware to anyone considering buying into his overpriced universe of content. It’s a shame, because the podcast is halfway decent for what it is. But I have to assume it’s all just curated content taken from other people and sources since he has no direct experience from which to speak.

    Love the show
What's funny about the negative reviews for this show is that James literally mentions in his episodes that he doesn't treat this podcast as a "value" fest. If you're tuning into the show expecting to be given everything for free, you will be disappointed. However, if you're smart enough to read between the lines and really listen to what he's saying, you'll realize that nothing else comes close.

    Suspect
I was intrigued when I came across this podcast and after listening to a few episodes decided to look a little deeper. The show is just a front to sell you his program(s). He has never been an advisor, yet touts himself as an “expert” coach to advisors. The weirdest part though is you cannot find any info on him anywhere aside from his podcast personality, which is strange. You can’t even talk to him without first shelling out $5k! I’ve met some of the best coaches in the world, Dan Hardy, Bo Eason, and a few others, none of which have that kind of initial barrier. Steer clear. Kitces podcast, The Perfect RIA, and The Elite Advisor Blueprint will provide a lot more value than is and you won’t be “sold” anything.

    Inspirational & Informative
The Advisor Coach is such an informative podcast. James really knows his stuff. I love how open and receptive he is to answering any questions his listeners have. If you're new to the Financial Advising industry this podcast is a must have on your playlist. The podcast is full of so much practical advice that financial advisors and the general public can put into action. I appreciate and resonate with the advice where they say that once you start becoming successful in life your friends and family will stop talking to you. I've experienced this on a smaller scale. I love how they are so raw and real on this show. They don't sugarcoat they give you the real meat of what you need to do to achieve more in life. Even though the podcast is about finance the episode I listened to had more of an emphasis on working hard and progressing towards your goals. Whether they are money related or otherwise. Overall this show is inspirational whether you are a financial advisor or not. I think anyone looking to develop themselves or entrepreneurs can benefit a lot from the Advisor Coach.

    Ugh Just not Good!
This (at least the old version) was decent. Now they added a co-host simply to laugh at James’s jokes. No value added. Speaking of no value added, there is nothing on this podcast that will make you a better advisor. James constantly talks about people who unsubscribe or challenge him in any way. If he was any good, he would know to ignore those people instead of spending half the podcast talking about them. The other half is him talking about how the podcast is just a teaser for all the goodies he’s hiding behind the curtain. No thank you. The fact is, there aren’t a ton of great podcasts in this space. I listen to 3 of them. I’ve become tired of listening to this guy and I’ll be unsubscribing. Don’t waste your time with this. There is literally no actionable advice for advisors.

    Meh
This was so much better without the guest host. It’s not the same. All of the episodes on the new show have been sub par at best. So awkward.
