I’ve waited so long for this. I can’t believe it’s back.

Like a phoenix of music genres rising from the ashes of its previous form, this resurrected masterpiece of a show is so amazing, it’s the only podcast I listen to at x1 speed. Not only because I just don’t want each episode to end, but also because JD’s voice sounds positively nightmarish at x0.75 speed. If you’re ready for the future of the year 2000, this show is absolutely for you!

My God! This show is brilliant and quality. Funny and informative, and while it might sound like a pen of wacky fool-beasts, it’s actually four articulate and educated music/culture fans with strong opinions with which they are quite ready to slap one another in the face. Some of the genres are beautiful, others challenging, but each is given a fair shake. And if you’re not intrigued enough yet, they dissect the famous “More Cowbell” bit from Saturday Night Live to reveal the SHOCKING TRUTH. Subscribe, listen, and ENJOY.

Unforgivably recent convert to this podcast, and it has given me my own Camaro Pandemic (reference). The banter, trivia and, above all, jams give me the power to leap ravines on my daily jogs. Thanks yachts! Genuinely unmissable.

My favorite podcast - just a couple of Midwestern fellas talking music & liner notes. If you’re not into the yacht rock schtick just skip to ~5/6 minutes in.

When I saw the episode appear in my library, my heart nearly burst with amazement and excitement! It’s so great to have the band back together—unfortunately minus Hunter. We all wish Hunter well on his journey. I surely would enjoy seeing more episodes show up on my feed. You make an excellent podcast.

Between Steve getting all “America First!” saying Fela shouldn’t get in because American bands are better and JD’s dad joke about LL Cool J’s name, I thought I was listening to Tucker Carlson. But you also get to hear multiple Maiden songs so it’s worth it.

This podcast has the character(s) needed to -hopefully- get one through this government-mandated craziness of 2020. JD, Hunter, Steve, David are national treasures and the best medicine, along with long walks and of course plenty of smooth, yachty music. Thankful for your creativity, humor and spirit, a fellow Spartan in Michigan. Go Green!

I didn’t realize these guys coined the term “yacht rock”. My brain loves music classification and categorizing into genres, so this is up my alley. Their humor can get coarse, but I dig their commentary otherwise - I laugh a lot. (PS I feel ya on the Eagles and Buffett 100%.)

Went back and listened to these episodes a second time and it made me get a good tingle down in my jean meat.

I'm in complete denial that BYR is over, but I'm about a year behind, so it won't fully hit me for a while. Still, I had to come here and express my love for this podcast, which is equal parts smooth music and dong jokes, and is, overall, an absolute delight. I live in a big, anxiety-causing city, and listening to JD, Hunter, Steve, and David debate the Yachtski scale or rate top-ten songs by wrestlers or Canadians or Canadian wrestlers always mellows me out and makes me laugh on the subway. What started as a series of funny web videos has become a truly in-depth, labor-of-love podcast that has led me to so much great, smooth music. While the new genre episodes are always entertaining, it's thanks to the Yacht or Nyachts and the bone-throws that I'm now a legit fan of people like Dane Donohue, Bill LaBounty, Ned Doheny, Airplay, and Pages. And I've found a new appreciation for bands and artists I already knew, like Ambrosia, George Benson, and Ray Parker Jr. I find myself reading liner notes and getting excited to see people like Jerry Hey, Paulinho de Costa, and Victor Feldman in the ranks. I also find myself with Ocean City Defender's excellent "Yacht or Nyacht" theme song stuck in my head all the time. This podcast is in me like Peter Frampton, and I love it. Thank you, gentlemen, for your years of dedication to the smooth tunes, for keeping the fire, and for sharing your love of this sublime music with all of us who long to climb aboard the boat.

If you worked in a college radio station and/or you’re a recovering rock snob, this is the show for you. Hard to listen during a workout due to the jokes that land at weird moments.

Good yachty ‘cast for anyone who likes four straight white males making jokes about their private parts into a microphone

Great podcast gentlemen. Way to keep the fire! I know Bad Sneakers from the Katy Lied album made the boat despite being outside the era, but I’m curious what Gene Yachtski thinks of the good doctor. Yacht or Nyacht?

As a long time fan of the YouTube series and yacht rock music, this show is the definitive source for all things yacht rock. The made up genres are fantastic for anyone who is a music nerd and likes to hear four funny guys break down music in ways thought unimaginable.

Episode 50 (our favorite yacht rock) is a GREAT show. Time after time, they sound great. Sultry hits is also good. It is raw and let’s you remember how far they have come. Divircecore is also a particular favorite. I also like each of the presenter’s episodes for different reasons. They reveal the unique points of view each hold. George Orwave Giallo Shots Backdoor suggestions and gentleman lessons. Just set the app on auto play and let it wash over you.

A bunch of music obsessives discussing whether some of the blandest, most soulless music ever put on vinyl qualifies as a “format” they defined. While the top 10 lists are entertaining and fun on a High Fidelity” level the “Yacht or....” podcasts have become tedious, interchangeable episodes mining a bit that got stale long after they exhausted their rants about how SiriusXM/Spotify define yacht rock

Hilarious with a surprising amount of info mixed in. Like Bill Cosby used to say each week in Fat Albert: coming at you with music and fun and if you’re not careful you might learn something before it’s done.

These guys have great chemistry and are a wealth of trivia about music, among other things. I love top ten lists, regardless of how arbitrary the genre. Highly informative and highly responsible for turning me on to tons of new music. Would have been five stars but I subtracted one from my algorithm due to the occasional lapse into political commentary.

'Beyond Yacht Rock' is perhaps the most important podcast of all time. Exploring arbitrary musical genres and counting them down has empowered and changed the way I think about music entirely. The cameraderie between JD, Hollywood Steve, Dave, and Hunter is like having a conversation with your best buds about music - arguing and sharing fun facts all along the way. If I could live in a podcast, this would be the podcast I would love to research and report for. 5 stars aren't enough, it's surely 100 stars on the Yachtski scale.

This is my favourite podcast. The chemistry and humor between JD, Hunter, Steve and Dave is a joy to listen to. They’ve introduced me to so many great artists eg Al Jarreau, Maxus, Bill LaBounty, Brenda Russell. Thank you so much x

I hate that this show is ending. I will miss it dearly. I have discovered so much smooth music over the years. My family hates me now. All I do is put on Gaucho at gatherings. My wife hates when I put on Al Jareau. She wouldn’t let me play it at our wedding. I don’t care. I love you guys I will miss you. I will revisit this entire series over and over again.

Love this show. Each one is unique and you can jump in any time. I’ve listened in progression. Lots of great facts, jokes, and insight into obscure music. But most of all, lots of great yacht rock.

This show is dumb and pointless but enlightened and surprisingly emotional. It’s like I’m sitting in the backseat of my Mom’s car listening to her cassette tape collection doing my best to sing along with my brothers like a big dumb beautiful family band. Love the show. Keep doing it you dorks.
