I have listened to most seasons of this well researched and informative show. David takes us along as though we were passengers with him on these journeys of discovery of the truth. I do hope he makes more.

    One of the greats
David is truly one of the greatest journalists and storytellers out there. So detailed, so thorough, so enthralling. Can’t recommend any of his podcasts enough!

I want to enjoy this show.
I do enjoy CBC podcasts, mostly all of them are phenomenal. However, I do find the host in this particular show to be quite hacky and exploitative.

    Haven’t listened yet
    But I LOVE CBC!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you David
David you are an amazing researcher. I’ve listened to all 9 seasons and absolutely adore hour manner of speaking to the victims families. Your kindness is so appreciated and your investigative brilliance is so inspiring. I’ve stopped listening to anything on cbc due to their coverage and complicity in the genocide of the Palestinian people but I will never stop listening to your absolutely worthy podcasts. Thank you for your tremendous work.

Great, but must be a subscriber to get all episodes
I enjoyed listening but each season has at least one episode you cannot listen to unless you are a subscriber. I will be deleting this from my show library as it’s a waste of time for me to listen to almost everything.

    The best
Season 9 is my favourite so far. I’ve listened to most seasons multiple times. David Ridgen is a phenomenal storyteller and I’m always happy to support a fellow Canadian.

    One of the best
I’ve been listening to this podcast since season one. It is so evident that David cares for the people for whom he is trying to find justice. My heart breaks for every parent. There are no Hollywood endings here, which I applaud. Each subject is handled with compassion, not sensationalism, which is commendable - and unusual in these days of 30 second videos.

    Slow Narration, Good Podcast
If you are finding the painfully slow narration pace unbearable like me, but enjoy the storyline try listening at 1.25x
  • TT1Taz
    Sounds are annoying
I’m starting on season 1 and it was good until the later episode where ALL you hear are bells from the search dogs. It’s unbearable, literally had to skip chunks of the episode. This is a podcast, you’d think maybe they’d understand SOUNDS are the main component. I’m so irritated right now, it’s the opposite thing you want from a podcast. Will try newer seasons, maybe they learned.

    Fake reviews
After one negative or honest review, several five star reviews rapidly come. They each name the host and praise the podcast in superlative terms. I wish Apple would catch this dishonest practice. The show is using these dishonest practices to stand out and enjoys that spotlight over other more honest podcasts that might otherwise get noticed.

    Best true crime podcast
I’m so grateful to David Ridgen and his team for making this podcast the best there is. I look forward to every season and I’m amazed at how well he does his job with a genuine compassion for victim’s families and the unparalleled journalism that goes into every episode. I know this job must take a toll on you and your team so thank you!

I listened to season 2, 5 and 8 so many times! I love the way David Ridgen conveys each stories, his compassion and dedication. Season 9 was shorter but nonetheless very interesting and heartbreaking. Thank you for your work David! We need a season 10 !!

    Amazing podcast šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦
David Ridgen is an absolute gem and the crĆØme de la crĆØme of storytellers. These are tough, emotional, devastating stories but he approaches them with grace, tact, courage and kindness. I will be a fan for life!

So thoroughly researched and a great format!

    Binge listening all seasons
David Ridgen does an excellent job of capturing all aspects of a case. He throughly investigates all names that are brought up in an investigation, pushes the police and DA to continue to investigate, and get answers that have never been heard before. The cherry on top is that his story telling is so good that you feel like he is talking directly to you.

    David Ridgen Storyteller
David Ridgen is an excellent story teller who does not sensationalize, but humanizes the people he works with, and their loved ones. I always look forward to the work he creates.

So in depth and interesting cases
Dave is so thoughtful in his telling of these cold cases and in consideration of the families. It’s so nice to see someone care about finding some sense of closure for these families after so many years of questions. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the seasons and more to come!
  • JN999podlove
    Told with such care
Season after season the host carefully curates a difficult story sharing the facts uncovered and respectfully leaving out any sensationalism.

    Precious lives
I would like to say that each of these stories are so sad and heartbreaking. Most of us could never even imagine an experience this terrible. it is our worst nightmare. The way that David tells these stories is like he is a caring friend to these people who have lost their loved ones and I feel that he helps them feel better in some way by, perhaps, just knowing that someone still cares maybe. I can feel the sad emotions of those who have lost such precious loved ones. My heart goes out to you all. I feel the anger that someone up until now or up until soon or one day hopefully, has gotten away with stealing someone’s whole life full of possibilities from them. Maybe knowing that there is less chance of getting away with murder because of people who care like David and of course advancement in technology will save some precious lives and protect people from having to live through these nightmares. Thanks again for your amazing work.

    Subscription
Enjoyed the podcast and have listened to each season. Started listening to the most recent season and despite it not drawing my interest as quickly as others I kept listening. I then got to episode 7 and it wouldn’t start. I then realized it was subscription only for the final two episodes. This threw me off and I guess I’m done with the story and future SKS. Seems odd for a government funded organization to then depend on subscriptions with a podcasts goal of simply reaching as many listeners as possible. Very disappointed in this money grab strategy by CBC.

    David Ridgen's voice & stories

Leaves you on edge of your seat
Great investigative podcast. The host is thorough and leads the listener in gripping manner that leaves you hanging at the edge of your seat each time. I highly recommend this podcast to all those interested in investigative journalism and true crime.

    EXCELLENT; don’t miss!
This is true crime podcasting at its absolute finest. This season is as gripping and moving as the previous seven in David Ridgen’s pod series ā€œSomeone Knows Somethingā€. The cases he investigates will stay with you long after you’ve listened, largely due to his investigative thoroughness and the sensitivity with which he treats the family and friends of the victims. The pacing is just right, and David has a strong, clear voice that is actually very soothing and a pleasure to listen to. I’ve listened to many podcasts, but Someone Knows Something is by far the best.

    Mid season 8
Just finished episode 3 season 8. The choice of ending it with Laurie’s song but respecting the sanctity and so saying very little about the song felt right . David is an amazing storyteller, soulful and very respectful. This is the gold standard of what a podcast should be.

    Best investigative podcast available!
If you like true crime/investigative podcasts, you have to give this a go. David Rigden is a very thorough, respectful, empathetic and cut to the chase investigative reporter. He tells the victims stories through the family and friends who knew them best. It’s emotional, raw and bone chilling reporting. And, his narrative voice is the best one in the podcast world. I binge every season as soon as it’s available. It’s just that good.
  • YukonClaire
    Garbage!
This podcast is so disgusting. I grew up in a neighbourhood that David Ridgen visited and I grew up with people he is naming as suspects. His work is NOT journalism or detective work. It is all rumours and conjecture. I can’t believe CBC can be involved with this bullcrap.

Absolutely enjoyed this episode, despite the terrible topic! Too many MMIW in Canada . I applaud You David for your courage, dedication, empathy at helping these families and friends. Please keep up the great work, I understand it’s an emotional and challenging job, appreciate you and your uncovering of these tragic stories. Thank you

First two seasons were good but then.. eye roll
The first two seasons were great until the host turned himself into some self-proclaimed messiah. He’s just so fake it hurts to listen to, by the end my eyes were rolling out of my head.

    Subscribers only down voted
The move to a subscription requirement has put me right off this podcast. Used to be a good podcast now it’s become greedy at the price of other peoples misery. To put up a pay wall on a cast that’s supposed to be about getting the word out and trying to find that ā€œsomeone who knows somethingā€ is a horrible decision and will limit who will listen and possibly have information.
  • DizzyMamma1975
    Fantastic investigative podcast
I’ve listened to all seasons and they have been very different cases but all very well written and investigated. Hopefully will lead to more evidence and a chance to solve these mysteries. Sad that now I come to listen to season 8, CBC have moved to it being available by subscription only. Not everyone has cash to spend in these tough economic times. I was looking forward to hearing it, but will have to wait until it is free, if that ever happens.

    Best
I could listen to that guy for hours! He has an incredible way of engaging with people. He knocks on people's doors, even those who have no intention of talking to any media, and somehow ends up welcomed into their living rooms, where witnesses of crimes relate their stories in full detail. He doesn't force anything. I have no idea how he makes it happen!

    This podcast had potential, but…
This podcast had potential, but sadly is nothing more than the exercising of an ego. I stopped listening after season two. David Ridgen is well pleased with himself, imagining he is the smartest tyke in the room; however, he offers little or no insight, and is neither a compelling presenter, nor a talented investigator. Ridgen’s writing is lacklustre, with odd phrasing, unnecessary repetition, misplaced modifiers and the misuse of metaphors. As well, the overall presentation is poor because of his flat affect and awkward pauses when reading his voiceover script. In season two, Ridgen’s hyperbolic description of the skyline of the city of Hamilton, Ontario, as ā€œā€¦day or night Blade Runner, post-apocalyptic, unrelenting flames and brimstoneā€¦ā€ is positively laughable. Having travelled exactly the same route over that bridge, when going from Toronto to the Niagara region, I can report that Hamilton has a significant industrial landscape; however, there is nothing post-apocalyptic about it. Of note are the ships travelling into and out of the Port at Hamilton, carrying everything from grain to gravel and sugar to scrap metal. Alongside are numerous sailboats and pleasure craft, both in the harbour and on the lake. Clearly, this doesn’t fit Ridgen’s bizarre set up. Makes me wonder how he would describe the harbour front in T.O.. Most striking in both seasons is Ridgen’s utter lack of empathy for the family of Adrien McNaughton, and for Sheryl Sheppard’s mother, Odette Fisher. Clearly, he was trying to stir up intense emotions for the sake of his recording. Not a single time does he express sorrow to any of these people over their loss of their respective family member. Reference has been made to Ridgen’s ā€˜shocking new evidence’. What has this man actually uncovered that has made the slightest bit of difference in either of these cases? CBC has called this podcast ā€˜critically acclaimed’. Really? By who?
